Now that Clif bars will kill you...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Now that Clif bars will kill you...

...I have to recommend 'Pemmican' bars from Bear Valley:

https://www.bearvalleybars.com/index.html

No, they're not made of meat fat. I don't know why a vegetarian product is called pemmican, but there it is. I tried one while out riding last weekend, and they're great. I find Clif bars too sweet, Powerbars are just nasty, and all the other ones I've tried seem to be full of stuff I don't want to eat. But these Pemmican things are just a bunch of natural ingredients, and they're neither gooey nor too chewey. And, they taste pretty good, considering...

(no I don't work for them, just thought it was a pretty good product)

Here's the nutritional info for the one I tried:

Net Wt. 3.75 oz. 106.4 G
All 8 Essential Amino Acids

Ingredients: Malted corn and barley, nonfat milk, honey, wheat germ, raisins, walnuts, soy flour, soy oil, wheat bran, pecans, grape juice.

Way too many calories per bar. If I was riding a century, maybe, but not for my usual 3-3:30 hour weekend rides.

True they are a high-calorie bar, I ate about 3/4 of it over 4 hours. Left me with a snack when I got home lol.

I generally eat 150-200 calories per hour on rides 2hr and longer. And the Fruit-n-Nut flavor is the best pemmican by far.

I didn't realize there was a recall on clif bars. Funny, I bought a whole box of Crunchy Peanut butter about two weeks ago.

So far I'm doing alright and have already had 4...I'll take my chances, those things weren't free.

Not all the bars are recalled, just the ones with peanut butter.

+1

Lara bars were some of the worst things i've ever eaten. Definately an aquired taste. Not one I'm willing to aquire.

I almost grabbed a box of Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch Cliff bars at Target earlier this week. I was relieve to find that the Chocolate Brownie ones I got instead are not on the recall list.

I love Lara Bars. Which ones did you try?

I like:
Peanut Butter Cookie
Cherry Pie
Apple Pie
Key Lime Pie
Chocolate Coconut Chew
Coconut cream pie

I could do without:
Cocoa Mole
Pecan Pie
Cashew Cookie
Banana Nut Bread
Ginger Snap

I'm up in the air over the Lemon and Pistachio I've yet to decide if I like or dont. I havent tried the cinnamon roll one either.
