MacroCycles: How Many Weeks and How Do You Peak?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

MacroCycles: How Many Weeks and How Do You Peak?

I was sitting down with team mates selecting 'A', 'B' and 'C' races for 2009 (actually I was explaining the concept to some...). We were planning training based on this and we hit a snag.

I have always done 6 week macro cycles. I have a team mate doing 5 weeks and another doing 4 weeks. So my questions are:

1. How many weeks are your cycles?

2. How do you adjust/reach you peak (When is it in the cycle)?

3. If you vary, or have varied the length of your macro cycles how did it affect your peak in terms of timing?

Discuss.

I am probably not much help on this topic as this is my first year in periodization and I am working out of Joe Friel's book.
It has me doing 4 week cycles and peaking for 2 weeks I think then the race period is after that and I believe that is anywhere from 1-6 weeks.

can't really help you as I'm a newbie and have only read Joe's book once so far

but I found registering at trainingpeaks.com was helpful for building a plan. even if you and your teammates register for one month at 15.00 you will be able to plan it.

I peaked about 20 years ago. Now....it is just a slow ugly decline.
