Patch-up clear coat?
Hey BF civilians!
I've been reading up on some ways that people have re-clear coated their frame. I've went to a few bike shops and they just said to use nail polish. Although my frame is CF, the part that I want to clear coat is Aluminum. Just wanted to hear if anyone has have experience or suggestions on doing this!
Thanks!

Your bike shop is right. And just for clarification, use CLEAR nailpolish.

Yes, I used clear nail polish on my aluminum frame. It doesn't make it look any better, but it protects the bare metal.

Why wouldn't it?
I have a related question. What if it's not just a small spot, and you need to re-clear a larger area? I removed some decals under the clear, and now I want to fill it in. I was thinking multiple thin layers of spray clearcoat and wet sanding then polish. I doubt nail polish would work in my case.

Yes, but it may not match very well. A recommendation for anyone using nail polish is to mask around the part you don't want to paint with painters tape (blue or green). Don't use packaging, the brown stuff, and especially don't use duct tape. It can actually mess up the paint when you pull it up and more than likely will leave a residue.
