Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you find that clean rims makes a difference in braking?

I read a lot about the ins and outs of bike and chain cleaning, but remarkably, I have seen very little about cleaning tire rims. I recently tried "simple greening" my rims, and was told after the fact that it was a no-no, as it left residue all over the rims & brakes.

Do you clean your rims regularly, and do you find it makes any difference in braking?

About once a year I take a scotch brite pad to my ksyrium elite wheels just to knock down any burrs or ridges. Sandpaper on the brake pads to remove any glazing improves braking the most. YMMV.

I've found that different rims make a huge difference in braking, but cleaning my rims doesn't do much unless the roads were wet and they are caked.

Doesn't really make a difference in braking, but cleaning them with a scotchbrite pad and rubbing alcohol will remove built up brake residue. It can help stop pad squealing.

De-glazing the brake pads with sandpaper and a quick cleaning of the braking surface on the rim can help the brakes feel like new, but I wouldn't say it makes a difference in braking.

I find that they make a difference in sound, but not too much in performance.

Swisstop Yellow pads make a difference in braking. All the other pads suck. I'll have the Swiss Yellows on all my bicycles soon. The Yellow pad also don't make a friggin mess out of your rims in wet weather. Worth every penny.

I heard that Swissstops are incompatible with Cervelo's forks and the rear seat stays on the S2?

Is that true?

I think if you put swiss stop yellow in campy super record brakes on a Cervelo your brakes will always rub, no matter how much you adjust them

there will be a recall of Swisstop Yellow if they don't fit the S2
