What's your occupation?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some automotive - at least that was while they were still taking shipments....haven't in almost 2 months. We'll take that one onthe shin, but it was an idiot move getting involved in automotive anyway (I wasn't here when it happend).

I'm working for the family (my wife's grandfather's) business.

I've done a ton of things in my short life - retail sales manager(s), run my own locksmithing company, worked in various manufacturing environments as a machinist, worked as a shop floor control software developer, little SQL dba and .asp programming, Lean Manufacturing internal consultant, balanced scorecard strategy deployment consultant, Production and Maketing Analyst, Production Manager, Technical Field Sales, Process Engineer, MRO Purchasing Associate, Materials and Supply Chain, ERP System developer....and now a Lean Manufacturing Manager.

...but really I just want to own a bike shop. Sad thing is all of my experience has taught me that....you can't make enough (my definition) money doing that to make it even remotely worthwhile.

So....I work to ride.

As it's on the theme, I figure I might mention that there's a LinkedIn group for DC-area cyclists offering or looking for jobs - GamJams: Cyclists hiring Cyclists.

Really my mentioning it is just a ploy to encourage some of you guys to give me a job so I can buy more schwag.

Currently working at a liquor store (barely). I'm not getting enough hours because there's just not enough business. However, I'll soon be graduating with a BA in Applied Nutrition. I'm also in the process of studying for the NASM Certified Personal Trainer exam, and getting my CPR and AED certs in the mean time. I figure, I love working out, eating right and showing others how to eat right and exercise. Might as well go for a good CPT cert and try to do what I love for a living.

I'm the author and photographer of two books about the back roads of California, and a third about Yosemite. I occasionally sell nature and travel photographs. I also conduct natural history tours, including photography tours in the western U.S. I've conducted photo workshops in Yosemite Valley, with travel by bike (I tow participants' tripods in a B.O.B. trailer).
