Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does anyone elses lycra...

...get tighter when they think about critting this season, I know mine does. Maybe it's because I haven't done it yet, but damn I'm stoked.

Ok you all can get back to arguing about Zipps and who's wallets are bigger.

"Critting"? Is that like eating critters? I saw a bald eagle munching on road kill today. Was it "critting"?

I think only freds call it "critting" though

Poor Kids... hope you don't get caught in the race with all the platinum expert mountain bikers that don't race road enough to move out of cat 5 . I assume you are registered already since both race are full...

The most important thing for that race is to stay near the front on the return leg because people will attack on the false flat leading up to the climb and if you are not in the lead group going over the top then you are going to be done.

So the climbing is on the return? Does it usually split out into separate groups? I think PAA has a hand full of high CAT mountain bikers racing in 5s...*******s haha.

It's an out-and-back... gradual false flat for a few miles, short steep climb, short steep descent, loooooooooooong gradual (~1%) descent to the turnaround, then back. After you go up the climb, it's all downhill to the finish, except for a little roller right before the finish.

Is your lycra getting tighter in the front, or in the back?

On second thought, don't answer that - there's no good answer to that question...

Thank you. I now know where I plan to initiate my sprint. Of course, it will be between Nick and me for 99th place, but it's all for fun, right?

That's a nice thing to do to a teammate (I think)
My wife is coming to watch me race as part of my b-day present. I informed her that she will see me twice during the entire race, so she should bring a book. Don't worry, she'll see me more often at Mothballs... I might even get to narrate the sprint if I go off the back in time

Nick is a 5 so his will be for 49th. You and I are in the same field though

Edit: Nick, I see you are in the first field. You are screwed

Yeah. You're famous thanks to that message board now. I forgot you were a 5, though. You should do Mothballs to get 2 of your 10 out of the way already.

Yeah. Nick, you can probably crash at my place [again] if you don't mind that the house is [still] a mess and getting up really early because I have to go help set up.
