Wheelset on a $500 budget
Pcad is right...yet again. Neuvations are piles of Turd and i'm sick of mine.
I was thinking of the Soul 4.0's but i really just want a rim that isn't going to give me a headache and i'm not convinced the souls will do that.
I want something stiff i want it to stay true but no overly heavy. I intend on racing this summer...but i'm a cat 5 wana be hackathon.
Go.

I don't own these, but they fit your criteria perfectly and are generally lauded:

I've been using these for crits. Fairly light (1635g, per Easton), reasonably inexpensive and they've stayed very true for me. I think they're $500 msrp now, but cheaper than that most places.
They have a higher spoke count (24/28) which is nice for us bulky boys.

However, for the money the Soul 4.0's are nice.

They aren't balanced. The weld where the rim is joined is both visible and heavy causing the wheels to wobble up and down when you spin them in your hand. I can also hear it in the rear hub on the road. They stayed true for a while, but this last year was a constant battle.

I've been happy with Fulcrum Race 3's and Ksyrium Elites. Open Pros have been ok, also. I have nothing bad to say about the other wheels mentioned.

here you go. lots of choices of rims and hubs and spokes. hand built and very durable.
