Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meh, I'll wait until the others are in stock. They're cheaper and I think they look nicer. My current tires have a lot of life left, I just wanted to race on the GP4000 black chili instead of the red ones I'm currently using, because the black chili stick a lot better.

Whether the extra grip is important or not doesn't really matter, it makes me feel better when I'm diving under someone in a corner.

I hope it's good as Michelin PR2.
Decided against PR3 based on posting regarding excessive/fast wear.
I think the conti 4000s roll better, in my experience the PR2 grip better in a corner, though the last time I posted that somebody threw out a study which contradicted that. The contis do wear much better, and to this point are much more flat resistant than the PR2. I did have one of the 4000s fail after about 700 miles because of a sidewall cut, but sometimes **** happens.

Ordered a pair today, either as a backup for my main ride or to eventually replace some PR2s on another I ride less often.

There is a link to the test in here.

Is it just me or do you people keep talking about these tires (or in their case "tyres") being $28 when it's actually 28 pounds? That's around $35 correct? not that it's a huge difference...

btw, I just bought one for my rear today.

The only difference between the 4000 with Black Chilli and the 4000S are the year models. The 4000 with BC are old stock. But its the same tire.

No, when I ordered mine yesterday I think the price worked out to $28 and change with the 10% discount PBK was running on the site and an additional 5% discount code. No tax and no shipping charges to USA. Picked up a pair plus an expansion plug that ran around $18 and my total charge was $74.01.

That's a good deal no matter how you look at it.

Damn. Then I guess they won't get the old ones back in stock. They were a lot cheaper. I guess I'll just go ahead and order two of the new style, even though I don't like the way they look and I don't like that they cost more...

I bought the 4000 black chilli (not the silver letter version) 2 weeks ago. I got the email that they were back in stock, ordered them, and shortly thereafter they were sold out again. I actually wanted the 4000s (silver letters), but they were out of stock and I wanted to get tires on my new wheels already. Since then, the 4000s has been back in and out of stock twice.

How do these compare to Krylion Carbons insofar as puncture resistance.

yes. I have about 1k miles on the 4 season, they have a tough side wall, good puncture resistance (so far), and I use them for foul weather/winter riding. The rear is developing a slight flat spot, but no other problems to note.

Also, look what's back in stock!

Might have to pull the trigger on a pair to match up with the Aksiums I bought from PBK!

OK, I did. 2 tires, $45 shipped. Oh, and the USARBR code is still good. God I need to stay off the PBK site.

Last night I ordered the more expensive GP4000S. Today I get an e-mail that the much cheaper GP4000 with black chili are back in stock.

$6 cheaper, and apparently the same tire with different writing on it.

Just got the email from PBK and ordered 2 plus a few inner tubes. And thanks for tip on the promo code - covers the conversion rate.

2 GP4000S (the less flashy, but cheaper ones)
9 speed 105/LX chain
3 cheap front "see me" lights w/batteries.

~$75. the chain would be $30 at the LBS, and the tires $50-60 each. geezuz
