Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How do guys clean that slop? (Note: if you have an outside faucet/hose line that is in service, then you really don't live in the cold)

-warm buckets of water? if so, where?
-"sponge bath" on the front porch?
-or do you just stay filthy 'til the thaw, and kick off those hanging chunks like I do with my 2000 Honda?

After a ride, I go and fill a bunch of water bottles with hot tap water, then give everything a good rinsing off. It doesn't really get the bike clean, but it gets the nasty grit off. Real cleaning waits until the snow is gone, usually mid-March, sometimes later. For that I'll probably be pulling off some parts, breaking out the rag with Simple Green, etc.

I did a "real cleaning" a few weeks ago after a ride. Spent nearly four hours wiping grime and dirt away from every possible place. I haven't been on an outside ride since.

I will, however, be doing bike support for a 10k running race on Sunday morning in Boston. That ought to be fun. I'll take some pics for you all.

That's from two years ago. By the time I got to the flashing yellow light intersection it was too deep to ride back up the path to my house. I only live a few blocks from the path in Riverside.
I went home on the road. It was plowed so it was not as deep. It was not much better. The year before that (or maybe two) we were riding on Brickyard Pond.

Heated garage. When it's above freezing in the garage a soft brush takes off almost all the mess, then a compressor drys the bike so it is always put away dry. If I need it, I just bring a bucket of water from the house. Most of the time I don't need any water. The bike looks the same as it did when I bought it in 1994 because I have really good fenders, and I clean it.
