Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What year is this bike? Eros

Hello, I am thinking about purchasing this bicycle and I was wondering what year this frame is? I believe the bike is a Bianchi Eros with various shimano components on it. Here are the pictures.

Also what do you think about this bike and what do you think it would be worth? I plan on giving it a test ride first, as I have never ridden on a steel frame before, but I never will take a bike that wont fit me. Thanks in advance

It looks like a standard mid-90s Bianchi road bike, but it's pretty damn hard to tell from those photos. I don't know if anyone here will know, you should ask these guys.

I'd guess that it's a '99-'01 bike.

Isn't Eros the Greek god of sex?

IIRC, the Eros has a triple chainring. The comparable double was the Campione d'Italia. My 96? has Campagnolo Mirage components.

What do you guys think about this bike in general and the price you would pay for it? sorry for purging this...and yes I have used the search function as well as read some reviews on the eros line in general. I am planning on test riding the bike this week and more than likely purchasing (because it would be a huge step up from current bike/commuter...GMC denali )

Edit: is there anything else I should find out when I see this bike. I know about fit, and general condition of bike. But with steel, is there anything about the frame or components that I need to inspect more carefully? Any questions I should ask the seller?

My Campione D'Italia has been a good ride. I think the frame has a nice road feel. It's fairly heavy compared to some of my other bikes (perhaps as much due to components as to frame), but will be a lot lighter than the Denali. You might want to pull the seat tube to see that it is not frozen and to check the frame for rust inside. I don't see a granny gear in the photo, so I suspect the components are not original. There is a site somewhere on the web that lists Bianchi detrails by year and model. I'll see if I can find it. Let us know what decals you see when you test ride it. Make sure the bike fits you.

This is the site I was remembering.https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...Eros&Type=bike. 93 is the earliest year the site does. You can link to 94 on the right side of page. The Eros those years were seven speed with Shimano RX 100 components and a triple crankset. Changed to Mirage in 95, don't know if they went back to Shimano later or not.
