Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Janurary pissing match. Mileage thread

January's over, and where one month closer to the thaw, so how many did you get in (no trainer miles) and since its winter in some of the country, say approximate average temps.

175.2 miles on the winter bike (30lbs with studs and fender)
and 32 miles of cross country skiing

Average temps, low single digits (*F)

New record for January for me by 175.2 miles

stating trainer miles dont count is like stating pcad had the most BF post last week........you do the math.

545 miles, a fair amount of climbing practice. Not much by some standards, I'm sure, but I'm satisfied.

306 for me which is a record for any month. The weather has been unusually warm and dry around here. And this isn't good since we're in a terrible drought.

71.5 kilometers - cycling outside, of course. I don't post my indoor "distance" anywhere. Temperature: about +3C.

PLUS

84.5 kilometers - walking outside. Temperature: anywhere from about -35C to +8C.

453 miles...Avg. temp was 31. Little snow however, only 13 inches. This year I invested in winter clothing and fenders for my Single Speed. I've been riding 20 miles to work everyday and then catching the bus home at night.

502 miles, probably my most ever, though I haven't been tracking monthly mileage before. Varied temperatures, from shirt sleeves down to 30's. Probably half of that was at night.

616.32 miles. A couple spin classes and trainer sessions on bad snow days too, but indoor miles don't count (and my computer doesn't count them anyway). It's been cold, but I'm used to it at this point.

Had my first ride today actually. A slow and steady 45 miles with a record high temp on 45 deg. It's been under 20 and windy the past week and below zero before that.

I felt weak the whole ride and almost lost control just trying to ride down the road. To think I've been off the bike for almost three months, it was great to get outside today.

I got 478 miles in this month which took some doing because on some days the cold and wind at 6am in the dark just made me want to turn back and go back to bed.

Damn RoadieJ that is decent for the road conditions up there. You got a lot more ice and snow than we saw here.
Anyway I am pleased with my ~278 (only ride on the weekend) miles
