Went to the dermatologist today to have some Mohs surgery to my face to remove squamous cell cancer. Turned out that he is quite a biker, having done Ride the Rockies twice, like I have, and rides in the same areas I do. He is going to do Bicycle Tour of Colorado this summer. He rides an Airborne (drool) and a Specialized Sequoia. He is a really nice guy, in early 50's.
Then, his assistant tells me that she also road bikes and ride a Bianchi. So, after surgery (with the MD's clearance) my wife and I take a ride, trying out her new Trek 7300 and me riding the Lemond. Great riding weather, wife did 5 miles and turned back (total of 10). I kept going and did about 20 all together. Interesting day! |
I had roughly the same experience with my doctor, too. During my introductory exam, she asked me what I did to keep in shape. Turned out she is an avid road cyclist and triathlete, rides a Merlin and a Quintana Roo.
I like having a doc who shares my hobbies - it means they often have personal practical experience with my complaints, both medical and the other! btw, it sure is great day for a ride in Denver today - I really enjoyed my commute this morning, and can't wait for the ride home. Might just have to take the long way home... :D Is your wife enjoying the Trek more than her Cannondale? |

Got to sell that Cannondale! I am planning about 25-30 miles after work tomorrow, as wife practices with her singing group, so I can ride later!! |

My last visit to my Dentist had a new guy work on me as my regular Dentist was out of town. Find out the new guy has about 6 bikes including a Trek 5500 and a 50th Anaversery Paramount....the one with the gold plated fork. (that one doesn't get ridden.... it's just a frameset.)

I'm tellin ya, we're everywhere....
went to take my cousin into surgery. the anesthesiologist came in and 'hey, don't you ride?'. I said yes. he said he was in the bike shop when I picked up my new bike and 'how are you enjoying it?'. here's my cousin getting doped and prodded and I'm chattering away about cycling and different frames and routes. :D |
I hope you are well after your surgery Denver. Btw, how is the Atkins diet working for you? Best - Ted

But, I don't use th Atkins diet. Don't really feel that long-term, for me, it is a very healthy program. |
I agree, I don't think that it is real healthy for long term. Anyway, I am glad that you are doing well. I got back on my cycling program yesterday, so today, my legs feel like rubber bands. Best -

Glad you are back on your bike.
To be honest, I don't remember why you had discontinued biking. I apologize. Lots and lots of stuff going on in my work and personal life, and I must have spaced out! I was fortunate in that I was able to keep in reasonable shape this winter through the trainer and the Lifecycle at the gym. First time I have been able to do that for a long time. Have a great day. |
