Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use 105 brifters also and put on an ultegra cassette (eBay special) and the lbs installed an sram chain (they claim that is all they use since they seem to be more robust). No problems at all...

You can use a Sram PG 970 (9-speed 12-26) cassette which weighs about the same as an Ultegra 9-speed cassette, about 220g, but is almost always cheaper. The Sram cassettes have the same spacing as the Shimano cassettes so they're interchangable and there's no need to change your shifters. Go with the Sram cassettes.

As for the chain, a Sram chain should come with a removable link, making it easier to remove/install so go with the Sram chain.
