Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Longest I have done in just jeans was 27 miles. It wasn't that bad, but I certainly wont do it again if given the choice. Biking shorts ftw.

I ordered them from the US and Swiss Stop pads were included but I removed them and installed the carbon compatible pads that came with my new wheels. I paid on Tuesday and received them on Friday and there was a holiday in there as well.

pulled the trigger on an edge 500. if found great deal on the bundle. i was wanting something that would work on 3 bikes and have heart rate. this seemed like a reasonable way to go about things.

Thanks.

any idea whether they would be OK with the new Ultegra 6700 levers? Apparently there is some difference between cable pull of the older levers and the newer levers.

Ultegra 6700 12-25 cassette and BB. Wanted tighter spacing than my Red 11-26 and to free up the Tiagra BB I've been using on the road bike.

Schwalbe Marathon Winter 700x35 studded tires for my hybrid. It's taken a foot of snow this month to finally give up on summer. The ol' road bike is parked, and the road tandem probably had its last ride yesterday. More white stuff is on the way tonight....

$14 at Jenson USA. Jenson is my favorite deal site. When they close-out, they do it the right way.

Nope, haven't used them. In the past I used Zero Gravity brakes, I'm hoping that these are comparable. Once I finish the build I'll be sure to post my thoughts on them.

Thanks. I have been looking into some weenie-ish brakes recently. I'm only 145 and dropping so I can handle them but I want some decent modulation. Keep us posted.

700 x 23 Continental ultra gatroskin. Before that was a Cateye Strada computer. In the next few weeks will be a saddle.

I guess this was a "cyber Monday" deal because I got it for $1200 - not $1500. Pretty good deal I think. And I purchased some Shimano SPD-SL pedals, which should be interesting because I've only ridden LOOK pedals for the past 15 years. I'm thinking that I'll change the saddle - my butt is used to a Selle Italia flight - the old one without the gel. I'm also thinking about an Ultegra crank and some 40-50 mm wheels - but I'll probably wait until it gets warmer to even think about dropping $800 on a wheelset.

I'll post pics once I get it on the 10th of December.

Performance Bike had the non-bundled 500 on sale for $199 this last weekend and were offering a 20% off coupon. Since then, the 500 is back up to $249 and the coupon has expired.

SRAM Force front derailleur. The Ultegra 6600 FD on my bike broke not too long ago, and I found the break last Friday. I was at my mother-in-law's for Thanksgiving, and the closest LBS that had FDs had this one for $60, Ultegra 6700 for $105, and Dura Ace for $150, with 10% off due to Black Friday. They installed it on the spot for free. It works fine, even though both SRAM and Shimano say it shouldn't.
