Decided to go all-out with the cycle computer.

Nice but all out would have been the 800 ;)

I just got the Edge 500 yesterday myself and today was the first ride. The Edge 500 replaces the Forerunner 305 that was not capable of recording long rides fully as it was really for running tho it had cycling capabilities...probably geared for Tri-Athlete usage....

Love being able to see the temp while riding as So Cal has decided to BAKE as of yesterday. I rode yesterday with it being this:

What problems did you have with the forerunner? I've done metric century's without any problem. Not really long distance for most though. I think it's a pretty great computer especially paired with cadence and HR. Simple and does everything I need it to.

For rides that went over about 48 miles the map would start dropping off the start point.

First ride of 50 miles:
Garmin data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/190167208 Shows my distance correctly 50.82 miles but the map shows my start point into my ride not where I started...resulting in this on Strava: http://app.strava.com/rides/11089282 which has my distance ridden as 49.1

I did a Metric Century that started and ended at same point here is the Garmin Data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/192007318 61.32 miles but again the map start gets cut off and here is the Strava data: http://app.strava.com/rides/11564513 which has my mileage as 45.2 miles.

I was told it was a memory issue and to make sure the history was clear before doing a long ride and so I tried that recently....
Did 51.6 miles and here is the Garmin data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/220408871 Map once again cut off at the start point....resulting in this on Strava: http://app.strava.com/rides/21300829 which shows only 48.1 miles

That's weird. I haven't deleted any history yet and it's worked out for me. Here is one of my Metric Centurys. Seemed to have mapped correctly for me http://connect.garmin.com/activity/205599397.

Maybe the fact I have it tracking my mile splits? You don't have that feature active.

I might deactivate that feature...and track my next long ride with both the forerunner and the Edge. I have a friend interested in buying the Forerunner. :)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Cygolite Hot Shot. Ordered one this week, it came Friday and the two little red button covers were missing. Printed the return form already and ordered another one from Amazon already. Have I mentioned that I really like Amazon prime? Some of those affiliates are dicey though.

Topeak seatpost rack. Does the job (my bike does not have rack eyelets), but won't win any beauty contests.....

sold my 105 5700 group, and bought used 2012 force/Red mix (red "black" RD) group w/same amount of miles as 105. Only ended up costing me $50 to upgrade.
