I don't care what y'all say, I will continue to do my share to keep the cheap chinese generic carbon parts suppliers and resellers in business...

(hopefully I won't lose any expensive water bottles in the process - these babies are a little looser than the Arundel Mandibles)

Are you referring to the occasional spike of ~100W too high followed by a spike of ~100W too low?

They are having issues with them. I can look down during a climb and see 300, 300, 120, 300, 300, 87, etc, etc. It is really screwing up my numbers. I have gone back to my 500 until they get it fixed. The problem is with both the 510 and the 810.

Here is my report to Garmin.

Here is a nice thread about it.

I am having issues with the 810 reading power (wattage) consistently. While climbing steadily I will look down and watch the wattage go from 300 down to 100 then back up to 300 (numbers are examples only). This is a problem since I use power to pace myself and to train. It is also messing up my average power and my normalized power.

Today I used both my Garmin 500 and the 810 on the same ride to see how much of a difference there is.

On the 500 my avg power was 154 watts with a normalized power of 212 watts. On the 810 my avg power was 146 and my normalized power was 199. In my opinion this difference is too much. I am including links to the ride with both computers.

810 - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/280044468

Is there somewhere that the issue has been documented?

Check my post above yours. Also read around on the Garmin site. There are plenty of places it has been documented.

Glad I don't use a power meter, I just bought a 510 myself.

If you don't use a pm they are amazing computers. Once Garmin gets the problem taken care of I'm sure I will be happy with my 810. I just think that it is a big enough problem that they should have had it taken care of prior to release. Power works fine with all of their prior computers, why did they have to make changes to that feature?

Adrianinkc 03-11-13 12:40 PM

I wish they would get it together with their product release bugs that seem to affect all of their products.

i don't mind. If you wait a year they usually work out all the bugs and lower the price, so i'll just stick w/my 500 till then. Really isn't anything for ME worth upgrading to the 510 anyway, so i might just wait till it breaks.

I lost one of those spiffy camelbak podium bottles with those cages the first time I used them. Now it's on a really hairy descent that I've lost a water bottle on before, but just letting you know. :p

That sucks. :( I was going to buy a 510 but I'll just use the powertap computer.

I bought the 810 so that my wife would be able to locate me in case of an emergency.

I will refrain from joking that your wife will want to find you, b/c i'm better than that.

How does that work? Does it bluetooth the GPS data to your phone, and then it updates someplace in the cloud where your wife can locate you or something?

Does it work better than the "locate my phone" feature the Iphone/cloud has?

generalkdi 03-11-13 01:39 PM

With all these people buying Garmin, which place has them with the best price?

I was having the same issue with my 500. I have the 2013 Sram Red Quarq. Quarq ended up doing a software update and it fixed the issue. So you might want to look towards them and not just Garmin with the issue.

merlinextraligh 03-11-13 01:45 PM

bought these last week:

Edit, sorry for the Small pic.

it's the Look/Polar power meter pedal system.

Connects with phone, when the ride starts it sends an e-mail to people that you wish to be able to follow you. They can follow you live via Garmin's site during the ride.

I tested it by using the Quarq with both the 810 and my 500 during the same ride. The 500 still works perfect. Many others on the Garmin site have done the same thing. It is doing the same thing with powertaps. I appreciate the suggestion though.
