Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, local shop. Specialized isn't shipping-friendly, which is great if you're an LBS.

Haven't had a complete mtn bike since selling my Bandersnatch frame last Fall (lotsa bikes, but no mtn bike). So after shopping around for decent frames, found it was cheaper to buy this one complete/shipped (knowing I'll swap the upper-mid level parts I have onto it to get me riding decent while saving for a good steel frame),just ordered this from BD yesterday (it's on sale from 399.95 down to 349.95...elsewise I would kept saving for a Surly KM frame)...

Tracking says tomorrow, but since it hasn't updated,I'll be happy so long as it's by Friday to have time to swap some parts on

New cables and bar tape. Exciting, huh? Now my bike shifts incredibly well and my bars look blue.

Did you replace the cable AND housings? Or just the cables?

I may have mentioned that I recently purchased a wheelset and was waiting on the accompanying tires, tubes, and cassette. Here is a pic of my rig with everything on and ready to roll (actually taken during my ride last Sunday).

Louis Garneau bibs and jersey. Decent discount as a new member at Performance and the jersey was already on clearance. Stoked to be back in Lycra. Haha.

I broke my chain two miles from the finish of my ride Saturday. So I bought a new 10-spd chain. I briefly considered draping the chain over my shoulders Cancellara style but I don't have soigneurs available to scrub out the grease stains.

*not being a Fred, I did not have a chain tool along on the ride. Considering the wilds of southern Tennessee, I may reconsider my stance on Fredliness. Those llamas look pretty vicious.

I just purchased a new Prologo Scratch Pro TS from eBay. Hopefully it will get here by Friday, so that I can ride it on my normal Saturday ride

The most recent is a Blackburn TRX-1 rear rack for my Cannondale resurection project, but in the last 10 days:
Comlpete Sram Red groupo for the Raleigh Team
Wound Up CX team cross disc (special order with black annodized crown and dropout) for the Cannondale
FSA k-lite comact bars for the Team
FSA stem for the Cannondale
Shimano bb5 road disc for the Cannondale
Truvative two bolt carbon post for the Cannondale

I have a 1997 Cannondale SR500 road bike. One of the two years Cannondale offered a road bike with a headshock. The elastomer damper in the headshock has been toast for a while and the bike has sat as a bare frame for 3 years. I decided to resurect it by replacing the headshock with a ridged fork and moving the Ultegra 6500 group that I took off it to build the Raleigh back and upgrade the Raleigh to a complete Sram Red groupo. I chose the CX fork from Wound Up because it offered the closest crown height and rake to the funky headshock setup. I intend to use the bike as a light tourer/commuter so I figured I'd give it a unique touch by mounting a disc brake on the front and steamlined rack on the rear. The Bonetrager bars on the Raleigh are a little wider than I like so they go back to the Cannondale and the Raleigh gets an upgrade. When all is said and done, I expect to have the Team bike under 16 pounds and a totally unique, wicked sporty commuter in the Cannondale.

I probably went off the deap end with this resurection/upgrade, but I feel like this is the right place to vent such bicycle insanity. I have all the stuff to make the Cannondale road worthy, except the fork, for under $500, but I figured why not just spend enough to buy a moderate-high end bike when I could have a high end bike AND a nice mid-range bike.
