They don't make them, but they need to... I would totally buy one if they did.

Giro used to put out cool limited edition gear the first Friday of every month on their facebook page, but they stopped doing it.

ABUS cable lock. Very light and will stop someone from just walking away with it.

A small simple pair of wire cutters will defeat that lock in less than 2 seconds, you better be close by because that lock is about the same as someone walking away with it, maybe that's why Abus stopped making it?

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Not everyone is walking around with cable cutters. If someone is planning on stealing a bike not many locks will stop them. Just like if a car thief wants your car, its alarm system won't save it.

It's to stop the person who sees an unlocked bike and on an impulse takes it.

Its just so I can walk into a deli to get something quick while on a ride.

Odd that you sat they stopped making it because its still on their website:
http://www.abus.com/eng/Mobile-Secur...biflex-Pro-202

And many vendors are still selling them.

Nitto nordeast for town bike

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=452736

to replace north road bar

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=452737

that puts me way too upright and that my 13 yr old (inheriting the bike) hates because he wants straight flat. Nordeast is attempt at compromise.

Well, technically you DID walk out with new chainrings and a rear dérailleur...at least that's what I would tell my wife...

Mr Obvious here again. I said wire cutters, a much smaller version that can be carried in a persons back pocket, wire cutters made for cutting regular gauges of copper wire. Heck a simple pocket knife with a decent blade could cut that cable.

You're quite the MacGuiver.

I really doubt a pocket knife can cut it. It will surely take you long enough for me to return from the bathroom or getting a water.

You seem to be determined to be the be right.... Good luck with that.

I got some new lightweight handlebar tape... directly from China. Oh... and a couple new chains too.

So do you; good luck in keeping your bike in your possession.

Here; you may need this information: http://www.bicycling.com/rides/bike-...trap-your-bike

So far i have for 3 years without a lock. It can only get better with a lock.

Maybe there's a simple misunderstanding on the intent of this lock. Its for when i need to run into a bathroom or into a deli for some water for food and only left for 2-3 minutes. It's NOT for going into a deli and eating inside or for the bike to be left for more than a few minutes.

Yes, someone looking to steal a bike and has cable cutters can get it, but they will also get part stronger locks if they are intent on taking the bike. And if they can't... they'll kick in the spokes and badly damage the bike.

BTW... my homeowner's insurance covers theft of the bike when away from home.

Sure a U lock might be more secure, but it's also heavier and bulkier so odds are it will be left home unless i have a planned extended stop.

Just to recap, this is what I said:

I bought a Giant Defy 3 on CL. I am getting it fit with some new rubber today and a cyclo computer. Should be a good weekend of riding

SpeshulEd 05-22-15 01:45 PM

Also bought the new garmin speed/cadence sensor, a sram xg-1090 cassette, a kmc x10sl pink lady chain, and a neat little basket for my beater. Gah, I spent too much money today.
