Two days ago I posted to a recent Road Cycling thread, “Smartphone use on road bike” about this self-produced accessory using these two purchased items:
I carry a cell phone for communication, in particular because I am often on call for work; for navigation; as a camera; and as a listening device. I like to keep my I-Phone 6+ on my chest close to my head so I can hear it, and have it easily accessible to answer a call, take a photo, or spot my position on the confusing, haphazard thoroughfares of Metro Boston. Earlier this year I replied to this thread, ”Water proof cases for iPhones”, describing a badge holder suspended from the neck, in which it nicely fit.
Eventually, the weight of the phone on my neck became a nuisance, so I started carrying it in a side pocket inside my cycling vest, but then it was less readily available, harder to quickly pick up a call, and more awkward to use for the other tasks.
So my final, and most satisfactory innovation was to buy a Hidden Security Waist Wallet with a top zippered opening from L.L. Bean for about $9.00, and a pair of suspenders with clips. I then shortened the front suspender straps as short as possible, and fashioned a “shoulder holster” as it were, that comfortably holds the I-phone high to make it easily accessible.
I call it an ”I-bra.” . As mentioned above, I usually wear a yellow cycling vest, so the holster doesn’t show.

Ordered today two Niterider Lumina 750 with Solis 40 rear light.
The price was right at Nash = $101.91 each set, which includes shipping.

Power2Max power meter for my 2013 Fuji Roubaix 1.0 LE. $499 with cranks and $35 for a FSA Gossamer bottom bracket. Turns out the two LBS I took the kit to didn't know how to put it in. Both mechanics (youngish) wanted to use a mallet to 'tap' the crank/sprocket into the existing bearings. If you laid the bike down on its left side and drop the new crank axle into the opening it goes in 1/4" and there's a metallic clunk. "You have to force these this in you know." The bike has no cylindrical container for the bearings, there is a metal retainer ring inside of the bearings and that's it. They kept insisting there was an entire bottom bracket in there (despite the inside being shiny aluminum and small holes in each of the three places where the downcoming tubes were welded. I bought the bearing puller tonight on Amazon. I'll do it myself.

Wife just got me a pair of Pearl Izumi PRO In-R-Cool Bibs for my birthday, these things are glorious!
On top of that my sister got me a headlight/taillight combo kit and some cash towards more stuff, sister-in-law gave me a Amazon gift card for more stuff, and in-laws gave me cash for a helmet since I haven't bought one yet and the mother-in-law is all worried.
Thinking new water bottle cages, a couple new jerseys, and then the obligatory helmet are on the short list.

Used (but not abused) Surly Cross-Check. Navy Blue. Shimano 105/Campy Record components. Seriously ugly handlebar tape....waiting for the box to arrive at my LBS so we can put it together and I can take it for a spin.

I was in LA this weekend and stopped into a store there that sells Rapha. They had the same climbers shoes I bought two weeks ago for $300 ($100 off retail) for 40 percent off. The ones I bought were blue but these were black with pink soles. I had to buy them. Doh. And pink overshoes for $30 and a trade jersey in sky colors for $60. I'm obsessed.
But come on, pink soles? I love them. I have to say the best thing about getting out of a bad marriage is not having to run your cycling purchase obsessions by the husband.

They are having a sale on their website right now but I have discovered if you can find a store that carries Rapha, chances are you'll get a better deal there. Sadly, the shoes are not on sale online but I bet they will be. I bought the blue pair after Rapha gave me 20 percent off for filling out a survey and paired that with a $35 credit I had left from a gift certificate.

Ha. It does speak highly of finding like-minded people. I never understood his derision actually. He spent a lot of money on his hobbies. I figured it was fair game. (And just for the record, we brought $ into the marriage in equal amounts so it wasn't like I was spending his earnings). Whatever, I'm happy to be single and have a closet dedicated to my bike gear. A whole (small) closet all my own. Happiness.

Thanks. No hurries at the moment (as in I'm not really looking to couple up right now) and just for the record, I'm mostly living in Northern California. A tiny town in Sonoma County with plenty of cycling buddies. :-)

Question for you then: do you use the included arch supports? How did you decide which was the best fit? I think the out-of-the-box fit is excellent except for slightly too much pressure on the ball of my right foot. Cleat adjustment is perfect for comfort/power and knees but for a small amount of soreness on the bottom of the front of my foot, after more than 30 miles. This is a huge improvement from the Sidis, which gave me serious and painful hot foot but wondering if adjusting the arch support will help ease pressure on the bottom of my foot?

No sweet jumps, was just getting the fit dialed in and clear coat was coming off quite qiuckly. I expect a little better finish quality than that. No impacts scrapes or the like, just flakes off.
