If you don't count the bike from the co op for the wife that I haven't paid for yet, I did just get some new BB bearings! Hopefully that will take care of the creaking...the same day I got the new bearings I also got a new crankset for my commuter. Hopefully that will stop the squealing (the spindle was separating from the drive side arm - with a GXP crankset/bb. Nothing that can be done about it but replacing it). Hopefully that will be two drivetrains that run quiet and smooth now.

TBH, looking girly stopped being a concern on the first ride wearing lycra.

Most recently bought some cycling clothing, despite my skepticism -- although I'm still planning to avoid the boy racer looking stuff.
  • Shimano Storm Jacket. Great windbreaker, warm enough down into the 30s with a long sleeve t-shirt weight jersey. Almost too warm above 60F. No idea about rain resistance yet, it hasn't rained recently. Should be a good walking casual rain jacket/windbreaker too.
  • Pearl Izumi transfer baselayer. I was tired of the clammy-then-chilly cotton t-shirts this winter. After a week with the PI undershirt, I'm sold. It's all that and a biscuit. Very comfy.
  • Louis Garneau Genesis jersey. Seems okay. Ultra-thin material, too cool this time of year to know how comfortable it'll be this summer. Feels a bit snaggy on my fingertips, but the material hasn't pilled up so far. Very casual look and fit, barely looks like a cycling jersey unless you notice the rear pockets.
I'll probably add a couple more Nashbar poly jerseys, which look casual rather than bikey.

I bought the dunlop Hi Viz jacket from a store in Cambridge called sports direct. It's really warm, as it's fleece lined and the zips are good quality. I paid £17 for mine. You can find them on google/ebay, but the ones to look for are the ones that are fleece lined

I really dig the black and white bar tape.

Your bicycle isn't required to be a pillar of masculinity, it's supposed to look good and get you to the podium.

I got this today.

Have some of their stuff already but this is the first of their Nth Series product I've purchased. It is super nice, a really high end garment. Probably my new favorite jersey.

went on a very hilly ride up in the mountains yesterday..
It was in the high 80's. Very warm for a mid winter ride. Especially, when not quite yet accustomed to summer like heat.
Some of my fellow riders insisted. Do buy a Summer base layer.
IS a summer base layer a must for rides over say, 90. ? any preferred brands?

The topic of summer base layers is as contentious as chain lube. Some do, some don't, but everyone has a strong opinion.

I saw this yesterday. $39.99 down from $49.99.
I have my own opinion which I will keep to myself. Just pointing out the deal, that's all.

Timothy,

Now that you have it, how is the fit? I agree it's a great-looking jersey and I'm thinking of ordering some kit from them. I'm 6', 175 lbs, wide shoulders, long arms, average torso, long legs. I wear L or XL, depending on whose brand it is.

I'm 5' 8", 190 lbs, not skinny but average muscles. This jersey is an XL and fits me well. Keep in mind that this is the Nth series which has a race cut. Sounds like you are taller and skinnier than I am. I think that this particular jersey is a bit shorter than some so you might want to try an XL, but it might be a touch looser in the waist.

Some of their other non Nth Series jerseys are more of a club cut but at least one had a note that it was now a race cut just like the Nth series so read the fine print.

Their gilets are definitely long. An XL covers almost my entire butt when standing. I have an Hemisphere Ronde Gilet, XL in orange, wore it on one ride. Send me a PM if you are interested. HEMISPHERE RONDE MENS GILET

I don't have any of their bibs but would be interested in hearing about the Nth series bibs from someone who has them.

I also have own a long sleeve thermal in XL. The arms are a bit long and thin for me and the shoulder are full cut - sounds perfect for you. Here is what it looks like.

I received today the parts I ordered directly from De Rosa; a saddle, pedals, bar tape, and a bottle holder. I ordered them Tuesday, they got here today! I like that speed, but then again, they did charge me $30 for shipping on a $130 order...
Strangely, though, the bottle holder I received wasn't the one I ordered. It's not even one that's shown on their site. It's De Rosa branded, and it might be carbon fiber which makes it more expensive than the one I ordered. Going to email them tomorrow to see if they will send me the one I wanted. I'm trying to build up a Nuovo Classico exactly how they have it shown in their catalog, and that bottle cage was part of it.
