I finally got the fit right on my SBC 6061. I swapped on a 3T -17° stem and went back to the 3T Superleggera handlebar I had laying around as the Deda Zero1 compact was definitely too shallow in the drops. Topped it off with the Cinelli Mike Giant gold bar tape. For the Lynskey, I removed the 3T Stealth stem and went with the Lynskey Ti stem.

Just an optical illusion, but wouldn't a -17 degree stem typically yield a horizonal (vs ground) appearance? This looks angled down a good amount.

The HT on this SBC is really tall (190mm) so when I first built it up, I used a Deda Zero1 stem/-6°. Even with that 0 stack top bearing cover, I knew the fit wasn’t going to be right. Plus, the Deda compact bar wasn’t helping either.
I then tried a Thompson stem/-10° and although it almost leveled and parallel to the TT, it still wasn’t perfect.
With this -17° and 3T Superleggera, I have the fit closely mirroring what I have on the Lynskey.

Damn, this thing is huge.
unfortunately, I hurt my ankle this weekend and will be off the bike for a week or two. Hate getting new toys I can't play with.

Very nice! My wife's road bike looks very similar - she's about 5'-1" 8-). Different brand (Jamis), but similar "look". Like yours, she loves it. We got it to fit well (high-ish handlebars, proper length stem) and I built it with a road triple in front and MTB cassette and RD for super low gearing. The two essentials: comfortable fit and low enough gearing.

I had a couple flats last weekend. So two tubes for the tandem (700 x 28).

Nachoman 01-24-21 07:02 PM

I also picked up a few water bottles.
2 specialized hydroflos w\o any insulation and 1 camelbak podium ice water bottle for those hot summer days when I want to keep water cold and frozen longer.

Cobbled together from Motobecane and Kestrel Parts

BikeIsland (a website that seems to re-sell returned BD bikes) had a listing for a Motobecane Le Champion SL that had its SRAM RED etap drive train removed and no handlebars. It did have DT Swiss PR1600 wheels, Ritchey tires, stem, seatpost, saddle, and probably the most valuable thing, a SRAM Red 22 crankset. I had some Oval bars from a Fuji, DA9000 shifters, derailleurs, bought some 105 brakes, and had a a Kestrel 55mm carbon aero wheelset laying around (I don't know what brand makes it, but its extremely nice, weighs about 1850g). My local bike shop has a great mechanic who knows and appreciates what this bike is and I always give them business.

It fits well and I love it. Weighs 16.5lbs with Ultegra pedals, carbon water bottle cage, SRAM Garmin mount. I always wanted aero wheels on a light bike. I also upped the crank to 52/36. Rode in the cold (about 22 to 25F) this morning.

After being out of stock pretty much everywhere for a while, solid seat post mounts for the Varia are back and now at ~$20 bucks. Ordered one for myself from Treefort (free shipping, no tax [for me, at least]) -
