Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got a new all-carbon stem:

A replacement for my existing stem, which is delaminating at the steering tube clamp. The thought of that clamp breaking mid-ride was giving me the willies:

It's certainly pretty, but I haven't mounted it yet. First ride later today, hopefully.

UPDATE: The darn works as intended (it's a stem after all). I didn't notice any change in the ride quality, but it looks pretty good on the bike. Quite "chubby", so I suppose it's stiffer than the old stem.

It uses tiny T20 Torx screws, so I had to hunt around my tools for that bit. Torqued to 3 N-m (printed on stem: 4 N-m max).

On the bike:

Picked this up online. Few changes, extensions with more rise, front hydration. Going to take some time to get used to but should be fun for some Tri’s

Bora cap and bibs. I had first ordered an 2XL in bibs from reviews advising to size up but I forgot that I'm "chunkier" than most riders so I sold them and purchased 3XL. They fit great just barely snug.

Ah, Gregg’s Greenlake brings back the memories of many a visit. Bellevue didn’t have the charm.

The bibs were disappointing. It seems the padding is a womens cut but the bib itself is mens. I triple checked the listing from probikekit and it states mens bib. Ill have to see about returning them.

I'm keeping the cap though.

4 posts from you and all have been about GPS tracking

Got this old school water bottle cage to mount on my 77 Raleigh Competition GS I'm restoring. It didn't come with cage bosses so this simply clamps on, and it's period correct, plus correct for Raleigh bicycles for the time period.

After decades of riding alu, steel and ti bikes, yesterday I bought my first carbon bike, Lord have mercy on my soul.

It's not a new one being from the mid 2000's, and I don't collect it until Tuesday so no pics yet. Sadly it won't qualify for my usual postings in the C&V section, so I'll have to step out from there occasionally now and mingle with plastic bike and gravel set

Do tools count as cycling-related?

Because I just fed my tool addiction with a hub extraction/installation kit:

Ordered from Aliexpress, so arrival will take a while.

Those cranky hubs will be humming along again with new bearings -- and a new freehub -- in a few weeks.

Not super happy with the bars that came on my new Domane, to wide for my liking, so I bought some Ritchey WCS Carbon Streem II Handlebars in 40cm. Should be here Thursday.

Just ordered myself new Oakley Flight Jacket glasses. Didn't arrive yet. Also consider buying a new road bike for my wife but need a little help here.
Read some good things about Tommaso Imola here https://bikecyclingreviews.com/road-...ediate-riders/ but would love to hear what professional riders can say about this particular brand and model. Would really appreciate some feedback.

Unidentified Guerciotti

Did a booboo and bought something without coming home to consider/research (more).

Currently looking for the "help identify Italian bike from Bike Boom era" thread.

Also...I haven't been back here in a VERY long time.

Hi.

I wanted to go with shorter crank arms so as long as I was investing in that I decided to splurge and do the crankset/power meter combo from power2max. Just got it installed today but no test yet.

You might get more traction on this question on the bike if you start an independent thread about it unless you found one searching for it or you already did the new thread.

Bought this nifty little tool that I debated on for a while, but I sort of said screw it I want to get it. Park Tool Wheel Holder.

Hi.
from the script on the seat lug I believe its 1984 or newer model. IIRC that's when they changed from block letters to script.
