Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin Edge Remote. Since changing from Di2 to SRAM, I found I missed the hood buttons I had programmed to scroll through the screens. The Remote works nicely, mounted on my bars right near my thumb.

I picked up a new pair of shoes to replace the 10+ year old Mavics that have started to give me hot spots throughout my foot. I found a pair of Sidi Carbon Wire 2 Airs on fleabay and then bought some shoe covers from Amazon since it’s still cool in my neck of the woods.

It might be useful for plugging punctures in yourself if the dog catches you.

I don’t love the Sidi dial compared with a Boa, but it’s fine.

Yep, I owned some Sidi's for about 12 years and I loved them, they were still in great shape, but I wanted to get some new ones, but, I wasn't in love with the price, so I opted for some Shimano's that I have been quite happy with and even though they were pricey, they were still close to half the cost of what I was looking at at the time. Prime covid lockdown, shortage time frame. I think they have come down in price a little, but but I could not justify $420 for them.

Also, are those the Tigers? That is what I was looking at the time in the Abisso

I understand. High-end bike shoes can get kind of ridiculous in price, but considering how long they tend to last, we tend to justify the expense. Mine are the Tiger 2. I found a pair in like-new condition on eBay about 1/2 of the full retail price, which was within my budget. I've been using lower-end Bonts for the last couple of years for both road and MTB/gravel. I've been battling with getting the shape of the heat-moldable sole correct on the MTB shoes, and haven't gotten there yet. I have a 6+ hour gravel event coming up in just over a week, and need to have comfortable feet. I gave up on the Bonts and bought the Sidis. I may talk myself into a pair of Sidi road shoes before too long.

Oh that is sweet. Yea they will last a long time. Mine were in such good shape, I sold them on ebay for $125 which was 50% of what I paid for them 12 years prior. If I could find them half off, I would have picked them up.

I like wearing tropical-style aloha shirts, and have started collecting some of these in certain designs, such as cycling-related patterns. I just received these three from eBay vendors at about $30-$35 a shirt with shipping. The only minor quibbles are the lack of a front pocket and a top button that's a bit low, but otherwise they seem just fine. Looking forward to many wearings.

Probably won't be a next time for you, running over something causing large holes is an extreme rarity, that has only happened to me once in over 40 years of riding, I've had more sidewall damage than large holes in the tread.

Problem with superglue is that it's not flexible, it will crumble after a while. I use superglue to fill in small holes and cracks in my tires from the outside, after I patched the tube, but I have to keep doing that after almost every ride, because as the tread flexes that glue just crumbles out.
I don't superglue every tiny hole, just those I question about, or those that caused a flat.

Some people will tell you not to bother filling in small holes/cracks on the tread if you can't see the casing, I disagree, the whole idea about filling in the holes is to prevent something from getting easier access into the tire through that weakness. If the hole is large, it's better to patch the tire with a boot patch from the inside.

Having said of that crap, there is now flexable superglue on the market, Amazon sells it, and this particular one got very high reviews from a lot of reviewers, so it should be good stuff;

KISS Molecular Super Bond, Rigid & Flexible, Waterproof, 20 Grams, Clear Super Glue

cost is about $11 on sale right now.
