Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

no. i had 12-25 on one set of wheels and when i brought one of my bikes to mountainous taiwan, i brought the other set of wheels with a 12-27 that i had in stock. unfortunately i think this is inadequate. i need a smaller gear.

I bought a couple electric-yellow jerseys this week, a long sleeve PI and a short sleeve PB house brand.

But mostly I bought this:

REI bike, aluminum frame with a carbon fork and 105.... $879. Gonna be my rain bike/ city cargo hauler.

That's a pretty great price on a 105 bike. Was that price with one of your 20% off coupons or anything (I know they went out recently - I just got mine) or was that the regular price?

Thats with the 20% coupon.

What sold me, other than the 105, was that it has long-reach brakes and a ton of frame clearance for big tires and fenders, as well as rack mounting points etc.

normally i don't question/mock ww purchases, but these cages, while beautiful, are more excessive than most...neighborhood of $100 each for 18 grams...bontrager xxx goes lighter, holds tighter, and you can get 'em (or a reasonable facsimile) on aliexpress for $30/pair.

Excellent - I have a couple of friends that need a first road bike and I know that they're both REI members, too; I'll point them towards it and hope they get off their asses.

It's not so much a question of weight or cost as it is aesthetics and a desire to endorse companies whose products (not just this cage) appeal to me. I like its shape better than any Bontrager cage I've owned. Now if these don't work well, if bottles slip out while I'm riding, that's a different story. I'll switch to something else. But until then, I'll keep an open mind. I want to form an opinion of these based on personal experience.

Got a pair of these toe covers - I like the fact that they hook behind the heel.

This is the 4th Bell Sweep I've owned. Hopefully this one will be retired due to age instead of catastrophic damage.

While awaiting the surgeon's okay to ride again, I've been spending a lot of time looking for bike gear. :-D I scored this Bontrager jacket at the local Trek Bike Store for 75% off. Final price was $33. It's a very slim fit, which I like but I'm glad I'm continuing to lose weight because I'm gonna need to drop a couple of pounds in order to close it. But who cares for that price?

Also scored a merino wool baselayer tank from Rapha for half price. I love wearing baselayers under my jersey in winter and summer and the two that for me are the most well-made and functional are Rapha and Campy multi-layer system --especially the waffle cut undershirts with the mock turtle collar. They wear and wash well. I have two that I use a lot and so far, they've stood up to the wear and tear.

I still have a stock seat post, stem, and fork Also didn't know there was 200+ grams to be lost in the fork.

The 1.1 is the lightest fork felt makes. 300 grams. The 1.4 fork that came with my F5 has aluminum steerer and drop outs.
