Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When it's all said and done I think everything will cost me $0 by reselling stuff, having a cashback CC, cashbacks through sites, price matching and earning credits on a website:

those Lakes look a little too similar to Specialized 74 for me to not think they are a rip off.

Probably vice versa would be more accurate.

Always regretted selling my bike bag, picked up one this week for a steal....
Much easier lugging around than a cardboard box.

took off a specialized s-works stem (17+ degree, i think a 90 or 100mm) that was aluminum. bought a Ritchey WCS carbon matrix stem (+6 degree 110mm). such a difference in the handling.

I've gone semi-berserk this month and bought a pair of Shimano mtb shoes, a Giro Synthe helmet, and a Stages Power meter.

where did you order your C-24s from Bob? And how much, if you don't mind my asking, did you pay? I also just ordered a set today, from PBK, which seemed to be one of the lesser expensive places to get them from and there was no indication (yet) of any delay.

nice, but how much protection do you think that bike bag will provide if confronted with a rough baggage handler.

I forgot to add that I also bought some castelli long finger gloves, for those freezing 40-60 degree Point Loma mornings, and
.

some pearl izumi elite thermal leg warmers, for same.

I suspect we both hunted all the usual sites. In the end, I went with Competitive Cyclist. They have them for $866, plus I had a coupon for $100 off, so I assumed I was looking at $766 because they do free shipping on almost everything... well, they charge for shipping wheels, so basically it was right about $800.

You almost certainly paid less. Because folks sometimes get hit with a customs charge, I figured it could be a wash, so I went with the US source. Plus, my last order from PBK never made it here--they were good about it though, so no worries--just an annoyance. At least with CC I can pick up the phone and yell at someone conveniently when they screw up

I have the Castelli Chiro Due and they have worked fine into the 40's. I wear a wool liner for those few mornings its in the high 30's on the wrong side of I-5

Heres the thing... baggage handlers hate hate hate hard and clumsy luggage, so cardboard boxes and hard shell bike specific luggage get a hammering. This bag takes both wheels off so its small and easy to handle. Wheels and frame pack nicely in.
Plus it folds up so is easy to store and/or cart around.

Probably a good call going through Competitive Cyclist. I've been hit with customs fees, but not for a while. Also, in case of a problem, or product defect, you're in such a superior position dealing with Competitive Cyclist, rather than PBK.
