Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just use old shirts/rags for that process (kinda like this^). Is that gear floss product significantly better?

I sisal twine for "flossing" the cassette. 100 ft roll for $4 at Home Depot. Works great.

There's a scratch on the right brake lever.

Just collecting a few pieces for a classic build.

will do. i can already tell you, there seem to be a lot of parts to work with, so if you recoil in horror at the sight of a box from ikea, you're probably not going to be into these.

although after reading through the instructions and watching an install video on youtube, it seems pretty straight forward.

No pictures but just ordered a Castelli Espresso 3 jacket. Got the black and fluorescent yellow. I have been eyeing this jacket for a while.

Good cleaning hack, have to give that a try! I like gear floss, helps me to conveniently and neatly keep clean drivetrain in my apt, but $6-7/20 pcs is kinda steep, also hard to find locally. I ve used torn strips from an old t-shirt with success too.

I remove the cassette using the proper tools, and wash the cassette with dish soap and water. NBD.

Hmmmm.....probably a good idea. I know the "microfiber" of that floss is probably better for the tooth surface, but twine is probably no worse than just shifting gears anyway.

Really need to quit being lazy & cut shirts into strips too. I too often either do a whole rag & work around, fold, fold again ,etc. and frustrate myself or strip up blue paper towels & that just ends up making a mess. I certainly have no shortage of old t-shirts.

I just cut off what I need from a mop head I bought from Home Depot for the purpose. Works really well. There are lots of tendrils to be cut from one mop head.

The parts issue doesn't look even close to daunting to me, and I found a video about installing them and it looked easy enough. My question is how well do they actually work, and will they hold up.

That's a great idea! $15 for three mop heads at Home Depot. Cotton too - bet it will really absorb the gunk! I'll give this a try!

I went for a mop head with thick tendrils. So far (one season) I've used a half-dozen or so. I would think that three mop heads would provide more than a lifetime supply!
