Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

peddle peddle peddle... City Grounds | Volcom

Early morning fog rolling up San Joanquin Hills Road headed toward Newport Coast Rd:

Costa Mesa has added a new bike shop right on Newport Blvd [across from Triangle Square] and while it was an early morning peddle, I just peeked into the window before they opened:

City Grounds
1810 Newport Blvd.
Costa Mesa, CA 92627

So I started to head home and rolled out the back of the shop and saw this:

Things you can see pedaling in Newport Beach, CA on 4th of July

I think this is a 25-35 mph zone down on the peninsula.

OAKLEY then and now

Got these old puppies out of the back of the drawer:

OAKLEY EYESHADES: This is the style of sunglass that Greg LeMond made famous. This is the first style of sunglass made by Oakley and obviously styled after their goggles.

And rockin' these new Jawbones too! LOVE'EM!!!

Hey, it's ok... an Italian company came and bought Oakley so it will fit with my "ALL ITALIAN THEME"... Either way, my rules, I am liable to break them when I see fit.... hehehehe

Continental Road Bike Tire

TIRE CHANGE TIME:

The rear Vredestein finally gave out after at least 2,000 miles!!! GREAT TIRE! But time to try something different, but mostly the shop did not have the VREDESTEIN in stock.

So now it's time to try out Continental Tire.

Broken carbon fork - cinelli aliante

Left fork tube as seen from back side.

There is a length of plastic in the carbon tube. Maybe use in molding?

Back view of the fork crown as you can see the damage to the right side for crown area.

View of fork crown from the front of the bike.

Right side view of the fork crown.

Rear 3/4 view the fork crown.

The seat shows that the bike flipped and landed on the top side as I was expecting to find the seat majorly torn more on the side.

The Carbon Campagnolo Record levers are scared. Yes, I'm very sad!

I was hoping to get to the story by now, a short narrative would have sufficed, have kind of lost interest already. Will assume this was some crash test performed by Cinelli in a lab setting...

If life was flat, it would be boring.

But, yea, my life has been a roller coaster, but all-in-all it has been a fun ride! As you may have read my opening statement [post #1] While the MX accident resulted a broken neck, that trip, while it ended in disaster, it was a great-fun trip of which as some point I'm sure to do again. I have gotten back on the motorcycles and do have fun with them. From that, I discovered road biking as I was not allowed to hit the dirt on the MTB.

But the simplicity of a road bike and the ease of just opening the door and go has been very attractive. And while this too has bitten me, I already miss riding and look for my return to pedaling.
