Is white the new black or is black the new white?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a white Peugeot PR10 back in the (ahem) 70's. Haven't had a white one since, but I sure loved that bike.

Not mine:

I hadn't noticed. What's the new max? It seems small. I would've liked 1024x768 personally, that's large enough to look good but still fit on most people's screens.

Resolution % of Internet Users
Higher than 1024×768 38%
1024×768 48%
800×600 8%
Lower than 800×600 < 1%
Unknown 6%

source: Wikipedia

If you make the max 1024x768, over 86% of internet users can view it just fine.

I see several mentions of ti in this thread and have to chime in myself. The day I went from painted steel to ti was the best day of my cycling life. The amount of time I spent dealing with chips, scratches, cleaning, rust, and assorted other frame finish problems went to about zero.

Now everyone wants their carbon frames painted...and in white no less! Even Litespeed offers custom paint finishes on the Archon, which is their top of the line bike. Why? Painted frames reminded me of the old line about the two best days in a boat owners life...the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it.

Huh? What are you using to clean it? baby oil? :-) Grease and black gunk smears equally well on any color bike. I use an organic cleaner called Charlie's soap that works really well. I also apply a polymer finish (same stuff used on airplanes) twice a year.

White bikes are sharp ... love the look, but I wouldn't want to own one. I've got too many high-maintenance goodies the way it is to be out there giving my bike a once-over with a Q-tip after rides.

Black bikes are cool, too. Sinister.

I'm tired of black bits, though. Really tired.

Bring back chrome (or chromish-looking alum).

Black, white, gray, silver mist, titanium dawn breeze, ebony chocolate mousse tar tar - the banalization of the world. It's the same with cars. In cities everyone wears black, look around. A generation ago there was a lot more color. It's odd, but the more people there are, they more they act the same, craving acceptance. I ride colors - red, blue, orange, (and a gray one like me) but I'm a nonconformist. My wife's rides are burgundy and yellow.

Need more than a white garage door to show them off.

I originally had an all matt carbon frame but had it replaced with the b&w. I didn't like it initially but it's grown on me.

Hello Bob,

I use Simple Green (10:1 dilution). I agree that the dirt probably smears on my red bike but you can't see it doing so nearly as readily as on a white bike. Quite honestly, on my carbon bikes, I've been spraying Armor All on a clean rag and wiping the bike down after I clean it with the Simple Green.

Hi rollin,

I agree and I really like your shot in front of the graffiti. I'm going to have to see about finding some better backdrops.

BTW, I could have gotten a new BMC Pro Machine frame for about the same price but it was the Astana paint job and I really didn't like it. If it had been the factory red and black I would have been all over it.

First of all, you have white lettering.....sellout.

The second bike reminds me of the "Red Bike Program" they had in Madison, Wisconsin when I was there.
They took all the bikes that the police had recovered that they could not find the owners for and painted them red, completely red, seats, bars, frames, tires, cranks....everything. Then they put them back out on the srteets for everyone to use. If you need a ride, grab any red bike you see. None were as nice as yours of course. I think if I see yours in person, I will need a ride.
