I ceratinly notice more effects on my knees the further back I adjust my saddle. I assume it's because you can get more force on the pedals because you can use your glutes more effectively. So for me it's a compromise; further back = more power but possible sore knees. Admittedly my knees are not in the best shape.

I guess this is why bike shops put newbs around the KOPS position - maybe not as much power but the guys isn't going to come back in pain a couple of weeks later.
