Happiness is...

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Happiness is...

A comfy taint. I have been suffering with my Selle C2 gel saddle for over a year and had almost gotten immune to the pain and (more importantly) numbness. I had adjusted my riding style and could handle 2 hour rides without much issue. After that, the numbness would start and not long after that the *** would start hurting.

So the new saddle hunting started. The two contenders ended up being the Fizik Arione and the Specialized Toupe. Two acclaimed saddles, but different enough to clearly divide the camps. It didn't take much effort to realize I needed a cutout (frequent numbness) and I measured my sit bones at pretty close to 143. So I pulled the trigger (sorry) on a NIB toupe from Ebay. I did a 73 mile group ride (3:45 saddle time) today and all I can say is WOW - instant comfort. The best thing I can say about it is that I didn't really think about it. Periodically I would realize I was just happily peddling along with no pain.

Summary: I'm a happy camper with my new toupe. For those that care, I'm 6'0, 145lbs with average proportions and a fairly skinny butt.

Glad you got something that you like. I hate that you suffered that long, but I bet that Toupe works great.

Um, in normal riding positions your sit bones should be bearing your weight. My taint seldom, if ever, is in contact with the saddle.

Also 6 foot and 140 isn't average proportions

Congrats on finding a saddle that works.

Until this thread I had forgotten any of my bikes have saddles. They do of course, the Specialized Toupe saddles. They are the best saddles I've ever ridden. Won't ride anything else now. They really do work for me.

Yeah... something about that selle c2 gel saddle just wasn't jiving. It would feel like my sit bones were sitting on the saddle like it should be, but my taint would be in considerable pain.

Wow, Pcad rides a toupe? I'm in good company!
