How does one fight back the tears?

At about 30 MPH or so for maybe 30 seconds - my tears start flowing. Kind of a pain in the butt.

Is this simple a "get better glasses" issue?

any suggestions?

Shape of the glasses not fitting the shape of your face. I have a pair of huge clear lens shades and my eyes tear up more with them on than a couple other smaller shaped ones that do a better job at protecting my eyes from wind. Maybe if you go looking for new ones, bring your bike and wind it up to top speed and see how they direct the windflow.

in colder weather it can be a problem for me as well. I picked up some Oakley Radar Range that are pretty large, and they do reduce, although, not eliminate the issue.

Is it a new thing or have you always had this issue? Sometimes when I'm just about to get a cold I tend to cry on descents (its sad to have to go down you know).
Try different glasses or how you angle your hear when going down; maybe a lower head and a slight squint will help.

The other day when I was riding and it was like 27 degree's I was having bad problems with my right eye. I just had to keep stuffing my glove under my glasses and whipping it constantly. And it was only the right one.

Happens all the time riding to work in winter except for the 30MPH part.

I have this problem too; it's really a problem for me, as I really need my prescription sunglasses, so the "get better glasses" solution is a $300+ proposition.

The same thing happens to me. Wear glasses; the bigger the better.

I wear snug fitting Tifosi's for this very reason. My eyes will water the contacts out of them if I'm not careful. Like someone else suggested get a pair of glasses that fit the contours of your face, it helps to lock the airflow out of your eyes like goggles keep the water out when you swim.

make sure the glasses are set right on your face
crooked or excessively tight bridge will cause excessive air to seep through

its kind of important to see the road at 30+ so i suggest you fix this quickly

Glasses that fit right are nice. I didn't really have a problem with tearing up with my old glasses (Nashbar Aries, I think they're called Nashbar Specters now), but I did get a little of it as air snuck around the edge, mostly in cold weather. It was more of a mild annoyance than a real aggravation or problem. I also had some problems with light coming around the edges because they weren't close enough to my face. I got some new glasses designed for bigger faces (I have a huge ol' head), Nashbar Revels - are you getting a feel for my sunglasses budget yet? - and the difference is night and day. They fit very close to my face, are very comfortable all day, practically no way to look under the edges so my entire field of vision is tinted, and I don't get any wind-induced tears at all. So there ya go. Not all sunglasses fit the same.

Doesn't matter what I use; I still get some tearing. My Bolles are pretty good though. The other day, I was just doing a quick ride to take some promo for an event to the LBS, so just wore my regular glasses. Not fun -- cried like a baby

I almost always get tearing at high speeds. It doesn't obstruct my vision, so I just deal with it... and then wipe when I get the chance.

I use Ektelon frame-less polycarbonate racquetball goggles. Any other glasses I've tried let in too much air.

Do they fog up on you? I seem to have a problem with them fogging up if they fit too snug, even if there are vents.

They fog up if I stop. Otherwise, no fog.

I have the same problem, next paycheck I'm getting back to contacts and getting some sunglasses that will cover my eyes better.

For now it actually helps to keep one eye closed at a time
