Is there a generic to the Zipp 808?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't have an extra $2500 lying around so I need the generic version. Like Apple Jacks at the grocery store. You could spend $5.99 on the real Kellogg's Apple Jacks or you can get the Stater Bros brand, Apple Rings, for $1.99. That's what I need, the Apple Rings version of the Zipp 808.

Head on over to Planet X. They have 82mm and 101mm rims for $280ish.

I've bought from Sean before - absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I'd buy from him again had I the need.

I'd estimate 6 to 12 of the regular posters on this forum have gotten wheels from 'them'. As far as I can tell, it is really just one guy. To this point, I have not read any bad experiences with the wheels themselves. I believe one person said he took a small amount of umbrage with the packaging, but as I recall it wasn't that big a deal.

Zipp actually owns Flashpoint. It is their Apple Rings version of their Apple Jacks flagship product.

I was going to mention the deal they had on bonktown for a set of 1365g Reynolds SDVT 700 Tubulars
I think the carbon width was the same as the 808's
Price was $900
Can still look at them here

Planet X is probably the best bet, but they don't offer an 80mm+ clincher, only tubular. That's as far as I can tell.

How funny -- I noticed the zipp.com logo down in the bottom-right corner of that flashpoint site too.
