What would BF do?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What would BF do?

Let's say you were 30 minutes away from finishing building
up your awesome new bike, and it was raining outside. Oh, the
humanity! Would you take her out in the rain for her maiden
voyage, or wait till tomorrow?

It's a tool not a jewel.

Hence if i was going to ride, I would ride the new bike.

However, if I didn't want to ride in the rain, I'd wait for tomorrow.

After 12 years on the same bike, I finally got a new one, on New Years Eve day.

Didn't actually get it on the road until right before Easter.

Guess what my advice is.

- edit -

Just noticed that you're in Texas. Are you really that much of a wuss?

Will you float? Light to moderate rain with fairly open road I would be tempted to ride. You could also toast the completion of your project with a toast.

I took my recent fixer-upper out for that maiden voyage at -28C. Go for it.

(I also found that shifter lubricant can get pretty solid at that temp)

I'm a fair weather cyclist. Here in Austin there are too many warm dry days for me to ride on cold (or warm) wet ones. I got stuck in the rain last year and got drenched. I couldn't believe the amount of water that came out of my BB when I pulled the crank.

It's not really raining that hard. Gotta get it dirty and get that first scratch out of the way.

I've recently decided to build a fair weather bike and a foul weather bike, out of the stuff I have lying around ... uh, plus SRAM Force.

But in your case, for the maiden voyage, I say ride ride ride. (Just don't forget to break a bottle of champagne over the headtube.)

This is true. Then again, two of my races last year were in the rain. If I hadn't trained in the rain, I might not have won them...

It really is fair weather here though.

Of course, this is coming from someone in Seattle. If I didn't ride in the rain, I wouldn't get to ride 8 months out of the year...

Wait until tomorrow.

After all, when it's dry, it's easy to deal with having forgotten to tighten stem bolts all the way.

...yup... did that the other day... Held together though!

For me it depends on the BB, if it is ceramic, it will need to regreased after riding in significant rain.

Starts raining in the middle of a ride. Act of God.

Start a ride in the middle of a rain. Act of a fool.
