Rock Racing wins and loses on the same day

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rock Racing wins and loses on the same day

If anyone saw the spread on their bikes in VeloNews, they might know what I'm getting at.

I realize that times are tough for Ball and co, but really... this is a little sad.

Maybe Mancebo spent so much time off the front because he was afraid someone would touch the wet paint?

I hadn't seen the piece, so I went over and took a look. I found the attached.

I am not sure I'd describe Pena as it states on his top tube.

I am sure that kids looking for autographs are duly impressed.

BTW...I was really laughing as I read the article on cyclingnews about the theft of Lance's tt bike. Apparently it was in an unmarked van that a thief, or thieves broke in to. The Sacremento police surmised that they did not know what they stole. LMAO...his freaking name is on the bike.

This is kind of like jumping over the low bar and setting the high bar at the same time.

They spray-painted Kestrel RT700s. Really.

Maybe the win will get a little more commitment out of their sponsor.

"As to the paint scheme on the Kestrel RT800 frames, Bliss said again, “We told them, do what you want to the bikes. As long as the logo shows, we’re OK with it.” And Rock Racing wanted the frame graphics to project their style. But she’s only recently learned the whole story behind the spray paint. “They said that in keeping with the anarchy theme, the first idea was to have each rider graffiti and then sign their own bike,” she related."

Anarchy Theme?

Hey, A-holes! When you're done with that wall we have some bikes for you to work on.

It doesn't really look too good for AS either though. Can't they send them some new bikes before (probably) the biggest race that team may enter this year? Poor job by the sponsor as well.

But I still can't get past the spray painting. WTF?

I honestly dont see a problem. They spray painted their bikes, so what? If you haven't noticed Rock Racing has made a name for themselves (especially through fashion). And before everyone argues about Rock Racings "fashion", speak up when you do almost $100 million in sales a year. They are not some bootleg fashion company, they know what they are doing. I do agree however spraypaint was probably not their first choice for paintjobs.

The fact that they did it on their at-race workstands adds that extra bit of amusement for me.

Perhaps not but it was their clear second choice. And it falls in line perfectly with the anarchy theme. It is simply imaging or branding, afterall. But that kind of imaging and brand is so painfully adolescent that it is annoying. Especially to those that once bought into that teen angst rebellion. What is M.B. going to ask his riders keep a pack of smokes in their jersey pocket too? (can't really roll them up your sleeve) Or perhaps just for photo shoots?

Just saying, I agree with botto. Its silly and looks desperate. Keep the kits, that after all requires a plan. Imo, leave the machines alone.

wake up people, this is what they want. they want to win the race (doing that) and they want everyone to be talking about them (doing that one quite well).

I'd be interested to know how Mancebo and the rest of the Rock riders feel about all this. Embarrassed, indifferent, disgusted?

Um, that's a Brother P-Touch label. Sign your own bike? I can stop off a Staples and get mine signed too.

Geez. While I'm not a fan of the over the top prices, last years kit and bikes were at least striking. They made you look, and they were bold.

Well, every "fashion designer" has a project go bad somewhere along the way. Just look at Galliano.

to you and some other people it looks "painfully adolescent", "annoying", "silly" and "desperate" but it's really not. It's fashion and it's making millions upon millions of dollars (and not just rock and republic, look at all the other fashion companies out there).

Yea. I know I'm embarrassed for them; I do wonder how they feel about it.

A multi-million dollar company pushing an "anarchy theme" is down right corny in the first place, but the spray paint...

Look at their kits... Apparently the crappy paint jobs and the "Rocks not dead" painted crappy on their uniforms is a viral campaign.

And its working.

Bravo!

I guess the Kestrels were bulk ordered from BD. Wonder if they had a group buy.
