Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When I raced junior crits in the UK in the 80's we were disqualified if we crossed the line with our hands off the bars. Although this never effected my placings

I find wild celebrations to be amusing. Especially if they are premature.

Boonen at last year's Scheldeprijs. Cavendish beats him on the line.

^I watched that race. A moment after that photo was taken, Boonen was riding through the air, ET style, while orchestral music played in the background. The race was an elaborate ruse as TB needed to get back to the mothership.

When I saw this photo after my last win, it scared me. The last time I looked back, I had 20m, so I stayed clear, but the crowd was certainly coming fast. I started the celebration at about 38mph, so I had that going for me. The line looks a lot closer at that speed.

If I'm lucky enough to be celebrating again in the future, I'm gonna wait a little longer...

You know, WR - I've seen that picture a few times now... and I still think it's from 1992.

Yeah, totally 1992.

Day-glow-o-rama, faded reds, softened blue tones. Tangerine bicycles and highlights on a racing jersey.
