Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bell bottle cage

sorry if repost:

so i was in my local wally world picking up some medicine for the kids and I had some time to myself so I cruised over to the bike section. Just like to look. and guess what I see? a bell carbon fiber cage. Wow.... weighs in at 28gms. I wish i had got a picture. Talk about trying to fit into niches...Just a really funny place to see carbon fiber. ok.. enough... oh yeah.. $29.95...

I don't "get" CF cages. What's wrong with aluminum?

Sigh.

Sigh.
Because they're barely any lighter than regular cages, cost multiple times more and are more likely to break.
Same as carbon stems and bars.

Wait, what?

If you are going to have only one piece of your bike be carbon, and one piece only, it shouldn't be a bottle cage.

+1, just wait a while and they'll end up in the 'clearance' aisle. Nobody at Walmart is going to pay half the price of their bike for a cage. I picked mine up for about $6 a piece. I've got about 4500 miles on them. Never launched a bottle and are still holding firm.

Nice to see an old thread with some snide comments made by yours truly.

That said, if they are only 8 bucks that is reasonable.

I still stand by my king cages (or if on a budget, performance aluminum).

This right here. Laugh, snicker all you want. I have a pair, and plan to get 2 more. Weight aside, they match my nude CF pedal force CG1

CF bottle cages? No thanks - too high tech. Aluminum? Too stiff. I'll stick to my lugged steel bottle cages I bought from Rivendell...only $240/ea. They're handmade, you know.
