Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A SRAM 10 speed connector link will work. What you want to look for, for a Campy 10 speed, is a 10 speed connector link that's specced 5.9mm wide. Some 10 speed connectors are 6.1mm wide. I think the SRAM is officially specced as 5.95mm.

I think SRAMs are marked on the link. Look for a 5.95. They also make a 6.1...

There are a million threads on this if you search. Wippermann link stamped 10S1 (I recommend calling wherever you buy it from if online - I got screwed over by harborcountrybike.com and its misleading advertising) is the only one that will fit.

People generally agree that the SRAM link is reusable, even if a bit of a pain to open.

i have got a wipperman link stamped 10speed and i have some problems with it. Firstly, it look longer and thicker than the campy chain. Secondly, when i am using the 14 to 11teeth, it skips. Any idea what is happening?

I think that DaveSSS, our resident link expert, has said that KMC links do not work. They are too wide as well.

It seems that performancebike.com still sells the 10S1 link, and excelsports.com might as well, but I would really contact them and make sure before you go through the trouble of ordering them.

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...83&PID=1204522

Let me know what they say. I'm curious myself.

A Wipperman link can cause skipping if it isn't oriented correctly.

I believe the orientation is correct in this photo:

OMG, that really makes a difference! I just fix it accordingly to the picture and no more skipping.

I've always used the Wipperman link. There are two models, one for the 6.2mm chains, and one for 5.9mm chains. If you are using a newer Campagnolo chain (UN model), you need the narrow link, which is probably marked Shimano - newer Campagnolo and Shimano chains share the same width.

Last time I needed a new chain, I just went and bought a Wipperman. I'm pretty happy with it, although I'll probably go back to Campagnolo chains next time. No need to buy anything else unless you get a really good deal on a KMC chain.

Also, I've heard that Superlinks are pretty good. IIRC, IRD also has a model that will work.

The 6.2 Wipperman Connex does actually work on an Ultra-Narrow chain. I did replace it with a 5.9 (Shimano) version, and kept the 6.2 as a spare, but it didn't seem to make any noticeable difference. The width difference between the two sizes is really small.

You really can't use a SRAM 10sp on a Campy 10sp chain. I did, and it f#cked the chain up thanks to a nasty chainsuck.

The KMC ones work really well.

The SRAM link seemed to work fine for me on a 15 mile test ride. I also measured it with feeler gauges beforehand and it was only slightly wider than a Campy link. Certainly seemed tolerable. The only thing I am not comfortable with is that you can't officially reuse it. I will still be replacing it with something else, whether it is a Connex or Superlink, or whatever.

Which KMC link works on the UN chain? The one made for Campy at 5.9 outside width, or the 5.88 outside with Shimano one?

The SRAM 10 powerloc should work perfectly. The dimension that determines suitability is the width between the inner surfaces of the plates, not the outside width.

FWIW, 10 speed chains fall into two groups of inner plate widths. One group includes SRAM and Campy UN. The other includes Shimano, KMC, Wipperman and the orgininal Campy 10 chain that went out of production several years ago.

The way to check for a proper fit is with feeler gages, between the inner and outer plates. A clearance in the .004-.008 inch range is ideal.
