Most Expensive Road Bike ON Bf

Since so many of you decided that $6K is nothing compared to your magnificent shwag, let's up the anti.

I'd like to see some REALLY expensive bicycles. $9K to play.

And I mean real money; not MSRP money.

umd 02-22-09 10:23 AM

As I said in the other thread, my bike adds up to $9K at retail, although I didn't actually pay that. I would bet that most people with bikes in that range don't pay retail.

scr660 02-22-09 10:24 AM

Ok, fine. How many of you actually paid 9K+ for a bike (by your own accounting)? No MSRP bull****.

umd 02-22-09 10:28 AM

Why do you care so much? You going to rob the winner?

Well, don't you think you should 'ante' up yourself, before throwing a challenge at others?
$9k to play means you have a 9K bike to start with...otherwise you're just trolling.

Jynx 02-22-09 10:31 AM

I don't think anyone is dumb enough to outright pay $9k. If you have a $9k bike chances are you got it for way cheaper or had it given to you.

The real ante is $25 for a red star. You don't seem to be in. :innocent:

nitropowered 02-22-09 10:33 AM

Some of these pricing numbers are usually not disclosable due to team contracts, sponsorship rules, etc.

Mitro 02-22-09 10:34 AM

Seriously, if I had spent $9K+ on a bike, I wouldn't be knocking down the doors to post it on this thread.

tombailey 02-22-09 10:36 AM

I'm probably not far off. Buy an expensive custom frame; crash it; buy a crash replacement. Adds up to some pretty big numbers pretty quickly. And sucks.

umd 02-22-09 10:36 AM

Everybody seems to be obsessed about the "price" or cost of bikes on bikeforums. I have a news flash: I spend far more money on gas, lodging, food, and race fees than I do on my bikes.

maybe he's 'anti' red star? 25 bucks could get him a tricked out name tag.

Hammertoe 02-22-09 10:42 AM

I have probably have over $6000 in my Cervelo/Record/PowerTap bike...

That's only one bike...

I do not like this thread...

ouch. Peer pressure. I donate enough to good causes..BF never really crossed my mind, until now.

One day, I will have the most expensive BF Road bike. And I'll post it.

So you don't have a 9k road bike to ante, based on the ante that YOU set?
Is this how you play poker too?

OK I can play that game. Who is the fastest sprinter on BF?
Minimum ante is 50mph over 100 meters.
I'm out.:D

I like these "my xxx is better than your xxx" threads, they're always entertaining and kill my braincells.

gmorris 02-22-09 11:08 AM

IMHO the cost of someone's ride is relative their annual income. If joe makes 300k a year and drops 9k on a bike--big deal. If blue collar mike makes 35k a year, saves every dime he makes and plops 2 grand down on a nice cannondale, then he is definitely making the bigger sacrifice and some would say appreciates the sport more!?!?

It is starting to come down pretty hard over here...

AEO 02-22-09 11:19 AM

nothing here yet, but if you're getting it now, it won't be long.

High end bikes remind me of something I learned 35 years ago in Econ 101. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giffen_good

Perfume, liquor, cigars, balsamic vinegar, the list now includes bikes and bike components.

Lazyrider 02-22-09 11:53 AM

I think a lot of people like to quote their retail prices but yet get perturbed when others say their bike is "worth" more than the deal they got for it. My only contention is that if I get a good deal on a bike and it is stolen or lost, could I get a replacement for the same price?
With insurance riders, you can have a bike that you paid $5k but may cost $8k to replace if you cannot duplicate the original sale price.

But I agree that anyone that pays retail of $9k for a bike is an idiot. Umd's Specialized is a nice rig, but $9k would be rdiculous to pay for that. I can get a custom Parlee tricked out for that price.

A good chunk of the "cost" is in the power meter and wheels.
