Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had to punch a truck today

I was on the downside of an interval when I made a turn onto a street which is usually a relatively low traffic road. There is a church and a daycare that take up most of the stretch on which I ride (maybe a quarter mile), but there are also two homes. As I road up to one of the homes, someone in a truck starts backing out right into me. I didn't have time to think, so I threw out my fist to give his tailgate a warning tap (read: slam) and eked by him while yelling "WATCH YOURSELF" at the top of my lungs.

Normally I wouldn't have posted this, as we all deal with moron cagers, but I happened to be wearing my HRM. When I first saw the lap data, I was surprised by the HR bump the incident gave me, but in retrospect I probably shouldn't have been. Anyways, I thought you'd enjoy the graph.

it's the best when you break off their sideview mirror for passing too close. Did you break the tail lamp?

So if we could all just get someone to back / pull out in front of us at the right time, heart rate intervals would be a cinch!

reminds me of the time my wife and I were out for a ride. We had a run in with a moron in a pickup truck. He ended up following us up a 2km climb in the bike lane. Half way up I said screw it and called 911.

So there I am cranking up the hill while talking to the 911 operator. I looked down at my HRM and my HR was at 189. My max up to that point had been 185.

Best part was that the guy in the truck had called 911 too, thinking he'd get us in crap. Cops met us at the top of the climb and when it was done we went merrily on our way while the driver got tongue lashing.

Similar thing happened to me and some friends out for a ride. The yahoo was acting like a fool, we see a cop up the road and tell him. The cop pulls the guy over to get his story and gets a whiff of the weed lol. He arrests the guy, with his wife crying and yelling at him...her husband that is, and we watch the show and get to mock the guy. A wonderful ride lol.

It's all about the open palm slap. It's loud, it sounds like you hit their car really hard but you deal no damage. Everyone wins.

I slapped a Prius the other day on the spoiler. For one, why does this car have a spoiler? And two, I almost broke the piece of crap with my hand.

Did this two years ago...jack***** kept trying to run me into the curb...closed fist through the mirror as I passed it...glass shattered everywhere...guy pulled up screaming at me and I told him he better keep going or I was going to break his face like I broke his mirror. I don't do well with rednecks trying to kill me.

Haha that's funny. Reminds me of when my girlfriend had to slam her purse on a car's hood because they were pulling out of a parking garage slowly, but weren't looking.

There was this one time some college girl in her big SUV decided to pull a Uturn in a two lane road. So she turns left and is perpendicular to the flow of traffic. Then hurriedly puts it in reverse and almost runs into me. I had to yelled and waved to get her attention.

I experience a lot of bad drivers living on a college campus. I don't even care to go out any weekend night for the fear of drunk drivers if I decided to bike commute somewhere instead of driving.

Some woman in an SUV wasn't paying attention and cut a couple of us off. At first we were going to say something nasty, but when we got a look at her, she was HOT. So we just smiled at her.

Here's an idea: start calling HOT women on their crap (just like you would anyone else).

No can do. Last time I even said "Dude, what the hell..?" to a hot chick, she started crying. Felt terrible, even though the incident was her fault and could have caused me great bodily harm. From now on I just keep my eyes open and smile.

Tip:

After you break the mirror, point to a scuff on your helmet and scream that they intentionally did a hit and run with personal injury. Can you say three years of eye popping insurance rates?
