Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yay! My frame arrived! (only 1 small pic so far)

My BH Connect frameset arrived! Happy day!

Came with generic BH supplied carbon seatpost and a seatcollar...FSA headset...and I think it was a Deda stem (can't remember, I'm at work right now).

But I think I will use my parts bin...a Easton EC90 SLX3 bars...Easton EA90 stem...Easton EC90 seatpost. Dura-Ace 7800 groupset. I have spare Fizik Arione Kium saddle...but I think I might get a Specialized Toupe...the Arione is just a bit uncomfortable. Not sure what color Toupe I'll get. I'm gonna order some Loo Keo Carbon pedals. I need to order some bottle cages...not sure what I'll get.

My biggest concern though is my wheelset...I might get Fulcrum Race 7's because they're cheap and I think they'll look good with the bike! But they're so heavy.

congratulations!

How much does it weigh and in what size?
can you provide a verified weight for the frameset? (ie, no seatpost, clamp, spacers, stem)

i haven't weighed anything...mostly because i dont have a scale (except your standard bathroom scale for humans). but i've been thinking of getting a smaller digital scale for bike junk. what do you guys use? food scales?

I have three different scales. The 'general' would do just fine for cycling/sport needs, but the others may find use for you in other forms.

General/sport use is the Ultimate/Feedback Alpine Digital Scale. It's a digital hook-hanger type that works really well and is accurate within 10g for general readings. Can be found via Google or eBay on the cheap. Recommended.

Other scales:
I have two digital scales. One is a kitchen-quality that reads up to 5000g with accuracy of ±1g.
The other scale is a scientific scale (read: expensive) that was given to me when a local genetics lab closed down years ago. That runs to within ±.005g. That is probably unnecessary for most needs.

I would recommend the hanger scale and the kitchen-scale. Both are useful for more than just cycling/sport needs.

The scientific scale is useful should you ever need to weigh other things.

Nice, with the right wheels, tires, bars tape, and seat, could have one of the nicest red/black bikes on here...

BTW, very nice bike. But you don't need me or anyone else to tell you that. Can't wait to see it all completed.

THIS is my HUGE dilemma...what color saddle? I'm thinking of going with the white Specialized Toupe with red accents...OR, just straight black. If I go with white, I'll have to do white bartape...black tape with black saddle.

Then my other huge dilemma are the wheels. Red Fulcrum Race 7's...too much red? The Ksyrium with one red spoke? The black Fulcrum Race 7's which has a bit of red and white lettering/accents on it?

Then...the tire. Just plain old black? Or do I go with something that has red or white in it?

Grrr...

Did anyone notice in the TOC when they did a little feature on BH? They lifted the bike to show the under-tube cable routing and I could swear that they had the cables crossed.

I saw that... they were crossed and I can't figure our why. I cross my brake cables from normal, but I don't think you could do that with the derailleurs because they mechanics of each of the shifters is different.

I did not see the BH bike being mentioned, however:

If you cross the cables on the downtube, you will avoid housing rub on the headtube.

Although there are frame protectors available (as simple as electrical tape), you can re-route the cables a bit differently to avoid the housing causing damage through frequent friction.

Not my bike:

Now, let's get back on topic: the new BH frame for celerystalksme!

welp, i just order some wheels...i got my some super heavy Fulcrum Racing 5's! lol so that's pretty much it...after the wheels arrive, i'm building her up. so it's like this: BH Connect frame and fork...fsa headseat...easton ea90 stem...easton ec90 slx3 bars...stock carbon seatpost...fizik arione kium saddle...dura-ace 7800 group...look keo carbon pedals...and the fulcrum racing 5's with vittoria rubino pro tires (red stripe). so the build is not going to be a light weight...but it shouldn't be TOO heavy. it'll be the wheels that's really keeping her weight up. everything else i would say is light weight to average weight. i MIGHT get a matching easton EC90 seatpost...and the carbon EC90 stem...won't do much for weight savings but it's be a nice touch. and if i can scrounge up some real cash, i might get eastons lighest clincher wheelset (forget what it's called).

i'm sticking with the fizik arione saddle for now (black with white stripe down middle) because i just don't know what saddle to get that would look nice. so i'll just use my arione and use black bartape.

i'm missing one thing: bottle cages. anyone have any advice on affordable, decent looking, not too heavy bottle cages?
