Wireless Computer w/ rear wheel sensor?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any suggestions?

Don't start with the Powertap either.

You can get a Garmin Edge 305 on eBay for $200 (refurbished). I've got one, and although it gets flaky if the cadence/speed sensor gets wet, it typically works without any problems.

I had a Cateye "double wireless" that used a rear wheel sensor. They have some really slick newer models now but I haven't paid much attention since I got my Garmins...

I have used the VDO C3 DS Digital Wireless on my bikes I still use it on my Tandem with senders on rear chain stay, the tange on the VDO C3 DS is 15ft so the rear wheel is no problem.
I have one for sale in really good condition with cadence you can see it here with info VDO C3 DS Digital Wireless Cyclocomputer w/ Wireless Cadence the one for sale was replaced with a Garmin GPS thats why its for sale I don't need it for this bike but still have one on my tandem.

I had a 305 and my wife had a 305. I got a 705 to use with a power meter, and just picked up another one for my wife. Just lost mine, came off during a race, and am now using my wife's.

the Cateye V3 has the cadence and speed sensors built into the same unit, which sits on the non-drive side chainstay.

How did this happen? Did you lose the unit off the bracket, or did the bracket itself somehow come lose?

Oh, and stem, or bar mount?

Stem mount. The top part of the mount separated from the bottom part. Intenernally it is held on by zip ties and the tabs inside broke. I noticed it was a little loose, I should have just taken it off and put it in my pocket...

****! The mount does look a little weak, and the top-heavy unit feels like it can put quite a bit of leverage on the mount.

Is there any alternative to the stock mount? Something that's a little more secure and lower in profile?

I've heard that they are working on a new mount because the garmin team kept breaking them.

I hope they come up with something more solid and low-profile.

I was riding up (and down) Yerba Buena last week, and the thing was rattling like crazy on the crappy road. A small bit of tape on the mount under the unit snugged it up perfectly, but doesn't change the basic problem of that heavy unit cantilevered over the mount.

I wonder if a bit of safety wire would be good insurance in the meantime...

Sigma has a pretty decent looking double wireless for a lot less than what Cateye offers.

It's also light years easier to install. Cateye's double wireless is like pulling teeth... in fact that may be one of the steps.

This is my cure for that bracket to give it more support. I think this is something that causes the contacts to get loose also from all the vibration and this also stops that.
