One or two bottle cages?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I only have 1 cage and most of the time I don't use it.
I hydrate before I leave and when I get back.
If am going out more than 1 hour I'll take 1 bottle.

Not everyone uses their bike for multi-hours long 50-100 mile rides.
no.

Wow, I must be a camel...or an idiot poser.
I usually bring 1 (even on hot & humid days) and still come back with about half.
...of course I drink after I get home...and before I leave.

During the summer i drink about 1 once a mile so I usually take 2 bottles and refill, when convenient, when the second is half done.

I have two on all of my bikes. In hot weather, I carry a third bottle in my middle jersey pocket.

I do a lot of solo rides and I like to take the road not yet traveled. Always a good idea to carry extra water, just in case.

And don't forget, the pros all have two water bottle cages.

Not sure if one of my original points was that I am suspicious that my friends carry so many water bottles because like many cyclists they are just too cheap to buy water on the ride. Cycling is so cheap compared to golf where a bottle of water is close to $5 let alone the price of the golf itself. On a really hot day up here (nothing like Texas) they drink their warm dog p.ss water that they've been lugging around for 4 hours while I am drinking my ice cold coke or water from a country store.

Some cyclists brag about never stopping. My ice cold drink lowers my body temperature so when I get back on my bike I just ride faster to make up for stopping. My friends used to complain about stopping until I pointed out that they have to stop too often to pee because they are drinking more water than what their body needs.

ps ..can't see the need to carry water on a commute like one guy mentioned unless it is Arizona I guess. Drink before you leave and when you get their or perhaps lose weight and get in better shape unless it is a 2 hour commute I guess. (put a beer fridge in the garage..that will make you ride home faster).

I'm a camel back fan. Hate reaching down for bottles. But I have 2 cages and will take camel back and 2 bottles for long rides in the summet

I don't known about more or less than what their bodies need, but if they have to stop just to drink the water they've been carrying around the whole time, that does seem to miss the point.

Like you, I enjoy a fresh, cold beverage at the turn-around or end of an extended time on the road, but on harder rides, little drinks now and then are necessary, and by the turn-around, I've often consumed the better part of two bottles. If the ride is easy, then no, carrying so much water is not necessary. But even on my little 60-80 minute morning training rides, the need arises and I'll go through the better part of a bottle just taking a sip or two now and then.

Two. I drink a lot of water. Even with two large bottles, I still tend to run out on medium length rides.
