Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thomson and Chris King - Logo Removal

Can anyone here who has a Thomson stem or seat post or a CK headset tell me if the logo (white logo on black anodizing) is screen printed or laser etched? If screened, any idea how easy it is to remove without damaging the underlying anodized layer?

Thanks.

Why would you want to? Then no one would know you're blingin'

Unless that's the point.

No offense, but I don't see the point in buying a CK if you're going to hide it. Save 50% and buy something else.

Or just buy one of their stupid "Sotto Voce" headsets.... then the graphics have been toned down for you.

That's kind of what I was afraid of.

I just did the google search I should have done before I started this thread and found that both are laser-etched.

if you get a silver thomson, the laser etched logo is pretty sublime.

I hear you can special order from thomson directly for a no logo seatpost.

why would you care that the logo is on the seatpost... it's a thomson post. Be proud you have one of the best seatposts made and move on. same with CK headset/hubs... they're good stuff, help market their brand.

Didn't know that. I'll check that out when it's time to place an order. Thanks, AEO.

The new King logo is nice on black. Not sure about Thomson, maybe a little electrical tape :-)

I was actually a little bummed when I bought a Thomson seatpost for my wife's bike, and when I installed it, only the "Thoms" was visible.

It's not so much the etching that stands out, it's the white fill paint.

Not sure but maybe using acetone would remove the paint? Worth a try. Gaudy logos are OCP stuff.

it's laser etched and it's not white fill paint it's a property of the metal after the particular laser wavelength hits it.
