Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lemond Values ??

I just bought a older Lemond and was wondering why the Trek stores are dropping them like hot potatoes? Since they are no longer being made wouldn't their value increase? I am not interested in some kind of investment but just curious if I shouldn't change it?

because Greg Lemond basically told the trek poster boy to stop doping.

Change it? Like buy a different bike? Why? I don't think that bikes really increase in value under the circumstances such as the LeMond name. If they were truly his bikes, and not just his name on a Trek (more or less) then maybe....maybe there would be some kind of collector value. Ride it, enjoy it....don't worry about it.

They... are still being made, only with different brand stickers because Trek dropped the LeMond brand.

Changing it by painting it. I wanted opinions before I heard, "Why did you paint a Lemond..."

I dunno man...personally I wouldn't waste a nano-second worrying about it if it were my bike....unless it actually needed a paint job or something. But, it's your bike.....and that is my opinion.

This is only partially correct.

If you're a keen cycling consumer, you'll have already noticed the similarities in geometry between the 2008 LeMond Aluminum and Spine bikes and the new Gary Fisher road bikes. Thats because they are the same frames.

I don't have official confirmation of this, but Trek basically continued production of the LeMond Aluminum and Spine bikes, but under the Gary Fisher nomenclature. They also changed the components.

For 2010 there will be completely new Gary Fisher road bikes, including full Carbon models. No more rebadged LeMond frames.

The Gary Fisher line is for the most part what a section of the 2009 LeMond bikes would have been. The R&D time/money (and possibly some frame fabrication) had already been spent and it would have been a waste to just not produce a bike. Also, it helps Trek-specific retailers to have more than one Road bike on the shelves, even if it is a Trek family. For 2010, geometries and frame design will be changing and it will be a full-fledged Fisher lineup. The top-out for road is a full 105 Grouppo (There is a SRAM Rival steel cross bike, the Presidio).

As far as the value of a LeMond brand bike, I see no "collectors" market forming as it was never a special brand when it was being produced in the first place.
