Tried DI2 today
Two booths had the new eDura-Ace on display at the Seattle Bike Expo. DI2 has been covered to death, but I thought I'd share a few things that I had noticed when trying it out in person:
1: the FD is audible, but much quieter than I had assumed from all of the videos on Youtube.
2: FD shifting - with Ultegra I am used to being on the big chainring as I finished sweeping the lever, but shifting into the big ring with a button eliminates that tactile feel and so the actual shift timing feels a little unpredictable. The shift was just as quick as mechanical, but it feels like there's a gap between hitting the button and changing rings.
3: The FD shifts under load, as promised. I have to wonder about some of the shear stresses put into the chain as a result however. David Millar throwing his bike over a guard rail last season after breaking his chain in this fashion comes to mind.
Overall, I liked it a lot - not enough to spend 5k on a new group but I hope it lasts long enough for the technology to trickle down to us mere mortals.
Also, the new Campy hoods, while ugly as sin, are way more comfortable than the last generation.

My thoughts exactly, although Shimano boasts that DI2 is capable of such a thing. Whatever.
I forgot to mention that an exhibitor had a built up Cervelo P4 on display. I'm not a huge Cervelo fan (I like their R3, but don't really geek out at their stuff), but the P4 is definitely interesting.
