Tifosi has nice RX lenses, and the frames are reasonable. I finally dumped my Smith inserts for good, and use my Tifosi RX or Oakley's with contacts.

I like glasses, if you can believe that.

I wear Rx sunglasses. I'd pay whatever to get Rx Oakleys but I'm out of their range (-6.xx, Oakley goes to -5.xx or something). I was ready to buy Oakleys at something like $600 but alas not available in my Rx.

Same here, I was bummed. I did end up going with a regular prescription oakley frame with the sunglass polarized lenses, just picked them up tonight. I went with the Socket 4.0 model.

Not the best pic, but heres mine:

Funny, since this thread was resurrected, I've started back with contacts again (daily disposables for me). I wear glasses when I'm not riding, but I'm liking contacts when I'm the bike again. It's pretty nice having a wider selection of sunglasses available. I've been wearing Jawbones lately, fantastic for cycling - very comfortable, don't slip or fog and the size of the lenses means you have great protection fromt he sun and good vision even when deep in the drops.

The downside of the higher Rx (heavier) glasses is that I noticed they had a tendency to start slipping down my face when I would start to sweat on hot days/tough climbs, and lighter non-Rx glasses solved that. Of course after prescription Oakley's the non-prescription stuff seems much cheaper :thumb: I still wear my Whisker's around, just not on the bike now.

Too much work to read through all of these responses, so I apologize if I'm rehashing this: I use stick-on diopters on my non-presciription sunglasses. Several locations on the Web sell them, like this one:

http://www.stickonlenses.net/servlet/StoreFront

I use just one (the other eye accommodates); it's possible to cut down the size of each stick-on lens, too, which makes them work with glasses that are too curved to hold the entire diopter.

Anyone know if Oakely will do an RX for Jawbones? It isn't clear from the website.

I went prescription. Most of the sunglasses can only take prescriptions that you don't even need a prescription for... But, there are a few, that are good for cycling, that work. You have to look hard.

Go find out what your total correction is (it'll be a number like 3.5). If it's over 4 I think you're just totally screwed. If it's under 3 you can get most sunglasses.

You'll pay out the @$$ for the lenses. You'll think Oakley frames are inexpensive when you see the price for the lenses ;).

  • Available with Oakley prescription lenses (+2.00 to -3.00 combined power)

You click "Buy Now" and then go to the "Description" tab. Scroll to the bottom.
