Well, bronchitis was fun
Went for my first ride in two plus weeks, after an upper respiratory infection that turned into bronchitis. I still have a pretty good cough, but I feel mostly healthy at this point. Very short little spin, though, 10 somewhat hilly miles...wow. All the work I did this winter...might just as well have sat on the couch, eating spaghetti-o's. I felt like I had the lung capacity of someone who had been chain smoking 4 packs a day for 50 years.
I get to totally rebuild my aerobic base now. Awesome.

Doesn't sound like fun, that's for sure. I hope you get better soon. However, it could have been worse. I, for one, am just getting over pneumonia, which followed on the heels of a respiratory infection, and a cold too. I am finally allowed to go on short rides.
I was sick for 1/2 of January, all of February and in early March the doc said "ease into it in mid-March". Yuck, what a royal pain in the sit-bones.*

I hear you. I had bronchitis, which turned into a sinus infection and then that somehow triggered my asthma which had previously been in remission. I'm weeks behind where I wanted to be... that's life, but just think, it's not even really warm out yet so you still have plenty of time to get your fitness back before the best part of the riding season has arrived. It'll come back faster than you think.

Sigh... I'm sick too.
Only got in one ride on the new bike and then whamo. Going to the doctor tomorrow since it's been two weeks and I just can't shake this cough.

I have a similar situation only worse. I have had what I thought was a cold for the past year that hasn't gone away. It affected my cycling but I didn't let it stop me. Until my heath worsened. An X-Ray revealed that I have a Bulla on my left lung that my require surgery to remove. I have been to three physicians and one of the pulmonary specialist tells me that it looks like I have emphysema. I have never been a smoker but the doctor told me that emphysema is hereditary. My father had it.
The doc also told me that my lungs are not working properly. I am concerned that I may have to give up cycling all together and become a couch potato.
When I started cycling three years ago I couldn't ride around the block on flat ground without being wended. I thought I was just out of shape. Well, after three years I could climb the nastiest hills near me but not very fast.
I would be very happy if my respiratory problem is curable.

I have a kidney transplant, not a winter goes by I don't get either pneumonia or bronchitis and spend at least a week in the hospital for it. Immuno-compromized ftw. Asthma doesn't help either, sigh.
