Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Solid Tire?

Okay. I am building a hubless road bike (for fun), but realized that:

1) filling the tire with air would be nearly impossible

2) changing/repairing a blown tire/inner tube would be impossible unless you were to get out a plasma cutter to cut the frame (that is how I pathetically designed it)

So my question to you is this: are there any road tires that do not require any air filling? Oh, and it must either go onto a rim like a regular tire would, or it can come with a regular rim that can have the spokes removed for a hubless design. I remember seeing (a year or so ago) a company that was producing solid rubber tires, but can't find them anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I will post the design as soon as I finish Photoshopping it to what it should look like finished.

**EDIT** I found this. Is this what I am looking for?

I have no idea what you're talking about, but try wheelchair tires?

What I mean is this:
I need two tires for a road bike that are solid, with no air inside. They are also known as airless tires. No tubes, no flat tires.

You can get tubes that have rubber in them so they don't flat.

Which is better? This one, or a tube with rubber in it?

Actually, no. I have found a long term solution to the problem. Airless tire! Lasts a long time.

A hubless bike? I'd like to see a drawing or pic of what you've got going on over there!

Okay people. Please direct your attention to the bike of the year:

The picture of the bike was "borrowed" from here. The frame will be the same color as the wheel "hub".

(Yes, it took me a long time to do this in Photoshop, but I got sidetracked a lot. I sorta gave up when I was trying to make a chain, as you can see )

^Who is Sheldon? I like that. A free thinker.
I say your airless tires look fine. You could glue them to the rim with silicone or tubular cement if you're worried.
It's not like you'll be racing crits on this thing.

Alright. I guess I didn't really have a choice anyway Which one and at what PSI should I get? Here are the choices (scroll down for the four 700 sizes).

Only option on that list is the High Performance. I'd bet the TT ones are like hockey pucks.
Could you photoshop for us a diagram of your wheel retention/ drive/ braking schematics?
You're not just pulling a prank, are you?

No pranks, just cranks. Sorry about that Um, for braking...I was just going to wing it and see if this design actually works first. Retention? What does that mean? Drivetrain...I will do it tomorrow. I am already 3 hours past my bedtime...lol. Okay, so I will get two HP ones then. At what PSI should I get them at? I want them to last a long time, because when it comes to the time when I need to replace them, I don't know how I will do it, unless I cut the tire and epoxy it to the rim.

The frame loops through the wheel to hold it onto the bike right? like this:

Or does an outer rim rotate around an inner one? like this:

the tire choice:
700 X 20 HP
HIGH PERFORMANCE
370g
90-110psi
15-16mm wide
6mm deep into rim (probably all that will fit on your deep dish wheels)

The rim is rotating around the bold blue rings that contain 3 polyurethane rollers per wheel, separated about 120 degrees of each other.

Extremely slowly backward... what is it, like 15 gear inches?

I think that you coudl build a hubless bike with pneumatic tires if you wanted to - we put a man on the moon, we can figure out how to do this.
