Fuji CCR-4
 

Performance Bicycle is advertising this bike. It's all carbon, but not great components (including some Sora). Reg. 1999, on sale for 999. The thing of it is, I cannot find mention of this bicycle anywhere online. Even Fuji's own website only lists the CCR-1, CCR-2 and CCR-3.

I know the bike exists, as I saw it in the shop tonight. They only had a small, or I was gonna take it for a test spin.

Does anybody know anything about these bikes??? I'm looking for a $1000 give or take road bike.

for a thousand you shuold be able to find something with no sora. Look on your local craigslist etc.

It's not on Fuji's site, and it's not in the 2008 catalog either. Was going to suggest that maybe it's a 2007 or older... however, it's on the cover of this month's Performance mail ad. So I just don't know. It's bad enough that Performance can't put Fuji bikes on their web site, but if there's a bike that Fuji itself doesn't list... well, just how are you supposed to look up the specs and etc.?

Very odd indeed. I still may go check this bike out tomorrow, but I'm kinda leaning towards a used Trek 2.3 now.

Fuji and Performance have their own bikes. They make a Team Rival too that is only sold at Performance it's a regular Team/Team Pro but with SRAM Rival. The CCR4 is the same carbon frame as the CCR 1,2 and 3 but with lesser components.

Any more feedback on this bike? It seems like a pretty good deal even if just for the frame. It's $999 right now -15% - 10% cash back for $750 which seems like a very good deal for the same frame they sell on the Ultegra SL equipped CCR-1 for $2900. A frame worth upgrading when possible I would think.

The CCR-4 is only sold at Performance. They just started putting Fuji Bikes on the Performance website so now you can check out the specs. I took the CCR-4 for a test ride about 2 months ago. It's cheap for a carbon bike just not the best components. I ended up getting Scattante CFR Sport, which at the time was on sale for 1,200. It's a carbon frame as well but with better components. I like my bike but it's my first road bike so I don't have much to compare it to. I kind of wish I would have took a Cannondale Caad 9 for a test ride, everyone seems to love those bikes. They have aluminum frames but better components.

The higher number with FUji means lower components. This is just the same frame with cheap components. If it fits, it is probably one of the best carbon deals from a reputable company.

It sounds like a good plan to me.
I was going to do the exact same thing. My local PB store finally got a CCR in what I thought would be my size in stock, so I took it for a test ride. It just didn't feel right to me at all. If they would have had one the next size down, I would have tried it. But, since they didn't I was just left with that one impression. Out of the five different bikes I have tried, it was my least favorite.

$1k? Caad9 7!

Trust me I am looking at the CAAD9 as well. You can't be a BF member and not know about the CAAD9.

That being said, the Fuji has the exact same pairing of Sora and Tiagra Shimano components. Pretty hard to compare most of the other components but it looks like the wheels are better on the CAAD9. So all things being fairly equal I think I would prefer to start with a full carbon frame to build on especially since the CCR-4 can be had for about $150-200 less than the CAAD9.

Would love to hear some more ride reports on ANY of the CCR lineup since the frame is the exact same.

Well, I ended up buying a Fuji Team from PB. All carbon, mostly 105, with an Ultegra rear. I've already got several hundred miles on it, and for a first "getting back into biking" bike, I couldn't be happier! :)

Any more ride reports on the CCR 1-4 bikes?

I test rode a CCR-4 last weekend.

It definitely has as short effective top tube (ETT) but with a short head tube in my bike's size, which is about a 58. That's peculiar given that usually comfort-type bikes have a short ETT and a long head tube.

Also strange was that in a 58, it had 42cm handlebars and I believe it had 172.5 cranks. Other brands would've had this bike set up with 44cm bars and 175mm cranks. I guess this frameset was meant for someone shorter than myself but looking at the geometry, I wouldn't have wanted the next size up.

I know little about carbon weaves, modulus or otherwise but it looked like a nice frameset. The components were indeed low-grade, though; the seat post was a dirt cheap-looking, the crankset was the old cotterless style, and then of course there's the Sora shifters which their awkward ergonomics. When I first took the bike outside, it made a repetitive squeaking sound as it rolled; turns out the hubs needed a few drops of dry lube. That was new to me.

When I test rode the bike, it didn't seem much more vertically compliant or otherwise shock-absorbing than my aluminum road bike. It was directionally very stable, probably due to the extremely lax head tube angle. If you want descending stability, this is one of the bikes to consider. Despite the crankset it had, the bike seemed to transmit power pretty well.

Not much about the ride was remarkable or that otherwise grabbed me.

However, at $750, I could stand to put some Tiagra or better shifters on it as well as a decent contemporary crankset in my size and maybe some better wheels.

The deal breaker, though, was when the shop tech was inflating the tires and the bike, which was resting its handlebars against a 2' section of wall, tipped over and hit its top tube against the corner of the wall, scarring the paint on the top tube. Since the bike is composite it concerned me enough to not want the bike, as cheap as it was.

good choice! I love my Team RC. I'm a little biased being a Fuji dealer but the CCR line is a decent line for the money. Not a huge fan of the FSA cranks that some of them get but you still have a great carbon frame

Well, somebody is riding these bikes because Performance is now SOLD OUT.

I bought one in July, 09 ($999-15% + tax-10% rebate) when on sale. After finished the riding classes at a local community college with a KHS Flite 300, the coach advised me to buy the "best frame" that's in my price range and upgrade the cheap components later. What a great advice!!! Now after putting over 3000 miles on this bike, this is a great bike, it's light and stable (compared with my beloved steel-lugged Specialized Allez Comp with shimano 600). I started the upgrade to Ultegra last month because of the wear. With a triple in front, I have the advantage when climbing Glendora Mountain Road on training rides...
