Why bib shorts?
since i started road cycling about five years ago, i've been wearing regular cycling shorts (or 3/4'ers).
but since arriving at BF all i hear about are bibs this, bibs that.
is it for overall comfort?
not having to worry about showing your crack?
so, why bibs instead of regular old (cycling) shorts?
i want to know what i'm missing, if anything.

You'll never know until you try. You could do a search, but I'll save you the trouble. The sum of all those threads answering your question is "I just tried bibs for the first time--I'll never go back". Or, perhaps you're in the .1% margin of error camp, but odds are against it.

come on...what's sexier than wearing bibs with no shirt? I mean that makes my wife absolutely weak in the knees.
...with laughter.

No waistline to dig in/roll down and they stay in place better than shorts.
Try some, you'll never go back.
Wearing nothing but leg warmers.

Short rides, not much of a difference. I appreciate the difference more on the longer rides.

I usually just run it down the leg opening, but your mileage may vary...
But seriously, get a pair of bibs and you'll never go back.
Assos are darn near perfect, and they last forever.

My kids get a kick out of my shorts, call me Diaper Man then run around like idiots. Damn cruel kids. When wearing my bibs the call my wrestler dude, a little better, I guess.

Lack of waistband is definitely more comfortable, especially if you have a waist bulge.
Also, if your jersey rides up a little, bibs don't expose your back (bc they have material running up higher on your back than regular shorts).
At this point, I pretty much use my regular shorts for riding inside on rollers/trainer, where I tend to ride shirtless in front of a fan to keep cool. Anything outside is bibs.

I wore shorts initially for a while and never had any problems with them... wondered what all the fuss was about. Never had trouble with the waistband or the shorts staying up or the chamois staying in place... but I tried bibs once to see for myself. They were so much better, it's hard to describe... you really just have to try for yourself to understand. Some people do try them and not like them; I suppose it is possible but it seems far less common.
